PLAYERS: Billy Wagner
TEAMS: New York Mets

The New York Mets would apparently love to unload closer Billy Wagner(notes), according to ESPN. The team has reportedly put him on waivers just before he is set to return from a long stay on the disabled list. And he is apparently ready to waive his no-trade clause.

Anybody who takes Wagner will have to shell our about $2.7 million for the rest of this season in addition to a $1 million buyout for next year. Unless for some crazy reason Wagner's new team wants to pick up his $8 million option for next season. So it is much more likely that nobody will claim him off of waivers and the Metropolitans will try and work out a trade in which the team will pay a chunk of what's owed to Wagner.

He's coming off Tommy John surgery and hasn't pitched in the bigs since last September so his trade value is low. Still, Wagner doesn't want to finish his career this way and apparently would like to get up to the 420-save mark or thereabouts. He's at 385 now.
