After enjoying victories in three out of four games this past weekend in New York, the Phillies are in Pittsburgh this evening to take on the Pirates. The Phils will roll out reliable Joe Blanton this evening who will go up against awesomely named Ross Ohlendorf who is having a nice season of his own. Blanton has been great for the Phils having thrown at least seven innings in all of his starts except for one since the month of July started.

Despite a fire sale of EPIC proportions, the Pirates actually have something to play for, "Not Last Place." They are still within striking distance of the Reds. If you don't think there's a Major League-style clubhouse effort going on, well, then apparently you've never seen Major League.

Jimmy Rollins will be back in the line up this evening after getting the day off on Monday to allow Eric Bruntlett's beard to get a little more airtime in the sun. Mr. Matt Stairs will give the dominant Jayson Werth a breather this evening in right.

Apropos of nothing, here's a picture of Jimmy's dogs and his fiancee Johari Smith.

First pitch set for 7:05. Remember to spay and neuter your pets.

Not familiar with a Bucco Taco? Well I've never had one but they sound gross if you ask me.

What to do about Brad Lidge?

How much longer can Brad Lidge be a closer on a team that wants to win a championship? Last night, for the NINTH time this season, the Phillies had a lead late in the game, handed the ball to Brad Lidge, and then watched him blow a save. Many would argue that Lidge probably shouldn't have been in the game last night at all since he had pitched in three straight games already...

Lee, Howard lead Phillies to series win

Cliff Lee got all he needed in a quirky first inning.Ryan Howard connected for a three run blast in the first inning to give the Phillies a quick 3-0 lead. With Lee only giving up one earned run in each of his four starts in a Phillies uniform that figured to be enough. It was but it did not come as easy as expected.Usually defensively sound, Chase Utley committed not one but two...

Keystone Cup

The Keystone Cup could be clinched tonight with a Phillies victory. Having swept the Pirates earlier this season back in July, the Phils need only one more win to tip the season series scale in their favor. The Keystone Cup was a WSBGM's creation back in our inaugural season of 2006, and it is awarded to the best MLB team in Pennsylvania according to head-to-head record. Pitching...

Howard Blasts Past Mets

The closer it gets to October, the hotter Ryan Howard gets.  In August and September, Howard takes hitting to a whole new level.  He showed his power with two monster home runs to help the Phillies win their third straight game. Yesterday, Jayson Werth and Carlos Ruiz each hit three-run home runs in the first inning.  [...]

Game chat: Phils look to lick their wounds in 'Burgh

Fresh off a devastating late-August loss to the Pirates, one that resulted in losing no ground, one they probably deserved to lose anyway, the Phillies send Cole Hamels (7-8, 4.78) to the mound against fellow lefty Paul Maholm (7-7, 4.74) hoping to reverse their downward spiral. First pitch is 7:05 ET. Ben Francisco starts in left replacing Raul Ibanez. Myers not starting: Brett...

Lee's 1st month with Phils Cy Young-caliber

Cliff Lee's first month in Philadelphia couldn't have gone any better: Five starts. Five wins. An ERA of just 0.68. Lee has made a fast Cy Young-caliber statement in the NL, says Ted Keith.

Lidge Must Keep Closing

Not since the days of Randy “Boom Boom” Lerch have Philadelphia Phillies’ fans been forced to endure a sustained look at a pitcher so obviously failing as the erstwhile closer Brad Lidge.Lidge has been terrible from the get go, terrible consistently, terrible month to month- almost Jimmy Rollins’ terrible. But I’m inclined to keep on running Lidge out there. At this point...

Case Closed: Trevor Hoffman to Philadelphia Phillies Bullpen Just Makes Sense

Citizens Bank Park could be hearing "Hells Bells" before the end of August. On MLB Trade Rumors website, NBC Sports Bob Harkins reported that Trevor Hoffman was placed on waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers and that the Philadelphia Phillies would be a good fit for Hoffman. Hoffman is 41 years old and the current all-time saves leader with 581. After spending 16 years with...
