Yesterday, the Texas Rangers released outfielder/firstbaseman Frank Catalanotto. Catalanotto who is 34, was having a fine spring and was batting .317 with nine runs scored in 40 at-bats. He also played for Team Italy during the World Baseball Classic.
A native New Yorker who hails from Long Island, the "Little Cat", as he is often called, is a gritty ballplayer with a solid reputation as a clubhouse leader.
As a hitter, he batted .274 last season with a .342 on-base percentage in 248 at-bats, and he owns career marks of .292 BA, .358 OBP, .449.
He is a lefthanded hitter who has spent his last two season as a utility player and pinch hitter.
CHONE projects a .270 - 7 - 42 season with 47 runs and a .744 OPS. I like his K% which is at 11.4 and is well above the league average over the years.
Catalanotto could serve a nice reserve role for the Mets, and would probably be more suited to fill an emergency everyday role than Marlon Anderson would. It would also allow Nick Evans...

As word came through that Milton Bradley has passed his physical, and is now officially a member of the Texas Rangers, manager Ron Washington wanted to make one thing clear.
He will not be making the same mistake Bud Black did.

Tigers Need To Sign Bonderman Now
Don't the Detroit Tigers need to sign Jeremy Bonderman, pronto? After seeing the Texas Rangers shell out $33 million over three years to Vincente Padilla and amid rumors that Ted Lilly could command ten million a season, I believe the Tigers can't get Bonderman to sign an extension quickly enough.I c...
Cubs interested in Mike Lamb?
According to the Tribune the Cubs are interested in signing Mike Lamb to a minor league deal. Lamb was pretty good with the Astros in 2004, 2006 and 2007, but was horrific with the Twins last year. He can play 1st and 3rd.
The Cubs may look at signing veteran infielder Mike Lamb to a minor-league deal as security in case of an Aramis Ramirez injury. Milwaukee just releasedâ...

Murphy and Evans making some noise.......
Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans, the two rookies have been contributing. Any time either one of them gets in the lineup or makes a pinch hitting appearance they always seem make the most of their opportunities.
Nick Evans who made a rare start last night in left, hit a HR in the 4th inning.. He is currently batting .272 with 2 HRs and 9 RBI's in his limited playing role.

Your 2009 Opening Day roster...
The Mets have made it official with the final cuts of the spring, the Mets have finalized their 25 man roster. The Mets sent down Bobby Kielty and Elmer Dessens while placing Fernando Nieve on waivers. As I've said before Kielty should have gotten a spot but as long as Anderson is on a short rope there's no harm in doing it this way. Nieve will have to clear waivers and accept...

In a post for his Always Amazin' blog, Matthew Artus suggests that the Mets could obtain closer, Huston Street from the Colorado Rockies if they are willing to part with reliever Aaron Heilman. This deal would benefit both the Mets and Heilman in many ways, as the Mets are looking to revamp their bullpen, while Heilman has been itching to start for the past couple of seasons.The...
