Did it look to anyone else like they were signing Kenji to an extension to preserve his tradeability? He's much more attractive with three years of control to a potential suitor. Young enough. Some team without a catcher would love a hard-hitting backstop. Of course, his services were re-upped at an expected .290 clip rather than .213 drudgery.

I believe that LaHair is not the answer the Mariners seek at 1B.

I also agree that Moore must be viewed as a realistic possibility due to his superior defensive skills.

I think the Ms should punt everybody: Ichiro, Bedard, Ibanez, Washburn, Beltre, Putz, all before next-year's trade-deadline. If we scurry to sign big dollar free agents and rush what little talent we have in the minors, we still won't be serious contenders (look at this year, for example), and in a few years we'll be in the same position we are and we'll have paid a lot of money to do it. If we rebuild, we can become a Milwaukee / Tampa Bay type team with a full system and money to spend, (and the Ms have money to spend). Let's spend the money when it benefits us.
