(For the last few weeks, I've been profiling some of the best free agents on the market this winter. At the end of each piece, I made a prediction regarding the type of contract the player could be in line to see. Obviously, these predictions have to be fluid because the season is still in progress. So which players have seen thier value change over the past few weeks? Let's take a look at the impending free agency of Russell Branyan.)Initial Prediction: (2 years/$15 million)When I posted my original piece about Branyan on August 7th, Russell Branyan was on pace to put up some of the best power numbers of any hitter in the AL this season. After struggling for so many years, Branyan broke out in 2009 by hitting .260-24 HR-61 RBI-.361 OBP. Branyan had a legitimate chance to hit 40 home runs if he stayed healthy and productive through the end of September.******** *********New Prediction: (2 years/$10 million)What Changed: Well, Branyan was unable to stay healthy and productive...

The Mariners Announcers Have To Get Happy About Something
The Mariners were actually in the Wild Card race at one point this season, but faded like a falling rock in the fourth quarter of the season. Which is why, Seattle's announcers Dave Niehaus and Mike Blowers decided to have some fun on Sunday. Not only did Blowers pick of Matt Tuiasosopo as player of the game pan out, but he even predicted the at-bat, count, pitch, and location...
This Catching Situation Might Translate Into 2010
There’s absolutely no way I would have made a claim like this, say, a month ago, but I’m starting to think it could happen. The current catching situation looks like this:
Kenji Johjima/Rob Johnson splitting time, with Adam Moore getting some big league experience and being groomed to be the catcher of the future.
Rob Johnson is [...]
C'mon Ken Griffey Jr., let us give you the send-off you deserve
Dear Ken Griffey Jr.(notes):Hey Junior, you still aren't saying if you're playing the final games of your Hall of Fame career this weekend and it appears that you're leaving every possible door swinging wide open as the season winds to a close.Part of me thinks that you're too cool and proud for a round of rocking chairs, microphones and tears and that you'll...
Quantifying Chemistry
Given the incentives that Ken Griffey Jr is going to obtain, the Mariners are going to pay him approximately $3.5 million for 2009. In addition, they’re paying Mike Sweeney $500,000 for the season, so their total expenditure on the DH position for the year was $4 million.
In terms of on field performance, [...]--

Please Don’t Lie To Me, Mariners
The Seattle Mariners' announcing team found some joy in the waning days of a failed season. Listen for yourself as analyst Mike Blowers predicts that M's rookie Matt Tuiasosopo will have his first career big-league homer and also calls the pitch and count it will be delivered on. And keep ...
Mariners first baseman Russell Branyan questionable for remainder
Mariners first baseman Russell Branyan is still experiencing pain in his lower back and may not play again this season.
The Felix and Junior show
That's a pretty good pictorial summation of tonight's game in this duo of Associated Press photos by Elaine Thompson: Ken Griffey Jr.'s three-run homer in the fifth, and Griffey getting a hug from Felix Hernandez.
Hernandez wasn't at the absolute top of his game -- he said he was "too strong," leading to command issues -- but it's a measure of how dominant...
Mariners, Felix To Discuss Extension After Season
The Mariners have agreed to sit down with Felix Hernandez's agent after the season to discuss a multiyear contract extension, according to Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times. The agent, Alan Nero, stressed the lack of urgency since Hernandez is already under team control through 2011. Nero certainly knows that Hernandez's maximum payday would come from going year-to...
Lineups, Mariners vs. A's, Sept. 29
Felix makes his penultimate Cy Young case against an A's team that has won 16 of 21 games -- an ominous development for next season. Ominous for Seattle, that is -- the A's have a lot of young talent that seems to be jelling, and they could be quite dangerous next year.
I'll have some notes and quotes momentarily.

Mariners 1B Branyan may not play again this season

Mike Blowers gets one really right in Sunday's game
Wow, you just don't see on-air predictions going this well. Not for specific at-bats and specific counts involving specific players.
But Mike Blowers sure made the right call on Matt Tuiasosopo prior to his first big-league homer yesterday.
I've linked here to Shannon Drayer's blog because it's well worth the listen to the on-air calls before and then during the...
Felix Hernandez Is In For a King's Ransom
It’s good to be king. As Felix Hernandez is eventually going to discover, it’s also good to be filthy rich. Oh, not rich to you and I. Oh no, he’s already beyond that. At $3...Read the full article on Bleacher Report...
