Clifflee
I'd be happy going back to Philly with a split, especially with Cliff Lee not even taking the mound yet. But taking 2 from the Dodgers in LA to start the series would be so demoralizing for the Dodgers that it would be really, really hard for them to recover. Here's what I will be looking for in Game 2... Pedro, duh. When we signed Pedro, I don't think many envisioned him as the Game 2 starter in the NLCS for us. Charlie is taking a big chance here with both Blanton and Happ able to pitch on full rest. We know Pedro has the mentality for the job, but will he be sharp after hardly pitching for the last month? By the way - if he's brilliant? He'll become a Matt Stairs-type legend pretty fast. The Floatilla. Vicente Padilla has great stuff, but anyone flat out released by a playoff contender mid-playoff race has got some extra baggage. Everyone has talked about great he has been since coming over the Dodgers, but 6 of his 8 regular season starts for them were against the D-Backs, G...

What cold? Cliff Lee says pitchers can benefit from chilly temps

There aren't many things to be gained by playing baseball in Cleveland for seven seasons, but growing impervious to cold temps is definitely one of them. With that in mind, Philly pitcher Cliff Lee(notes) says he's not worried about the cold temperatures that are already a storyline for tonight's NLCS Game 3 between the Phillies and Dodgers. And not only because he used to pitch on...

Reeling Phillies turn to Lee for Game 3

On the verge of taking a commanding two-game lead in the National League championship series, the Philadelphia Phillies’ bullpen couldn’t shut the door. With the way Cliff Lee has pitched in his first two postseason starts, the much-maligned relief corps might not be needed for Game 3.

Does Cliff Lee have a chance at replicating Hamels' 2008 run?

Cole Hamels(notes) gets the nod in tonight's NLCS Game 1, but the truth is that the reigning NLCS and World Series MVP is far from being the Phillies' current ace. So who's currently starring for Philadelphia in the role of Cole Hamels? Why, fellow lefty Cliff Lee(notes), of course. Actually, if you compare the numbers of the Hamels from '08 postseason to the '...

Step Away from the Ledge, Folks

Yes, it was a bad loss. You’re angry, frustrated, and bewildered by Chase’s sudden yips. But keep a few things in mind. This team rebounds from bad losses better than any sports team I have ever seen.  They have their stud, Cliff Lee, on the mound for Game 3.  Chase Utley is getting ready to catch fire at [...]

Game 3: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

The Dodgers are going with Hiroki Kuroda against Cliff Lee of the Phillies.  Kuroda did not pitch in the first round of the playoffs due to injury so the Dodgers probably just want five good innings out of him.  He started 1 game against the Phillies this season and he was 0-0 with a 0.00 [...]

Cole Day in Hell

Brad Lidge has been solid in the playoffs. The hitters have come up huge. Cliff Lee has pitched like the #1 stud. The biggest failure in the 2009 playoffs for the Phillies? With apologies to Ryan Madsen, it has been Cole Hamels. He was the only losing pitcher for the Phils in the Rockies series, [...]
