Wow, that was close. The Mariners were on the brink of irrelevance before Franklin Gutierrez hit a three-run homer off C.J. Wilson in the ninth. David Aardsma saves it for Felix Hernandez, the Mariners go on to a 3-1 win and are now only 3 1/2 games out of first place.
They were that close to being 5 1/2 out.

The Rangers couldn't hold the 1-0 lead and fell 3-1 to the Mariners. The loss puts them just a 1/2 game in front of the Angels and 3 1/2 ahead of Seattle.
A few thoughts:

The Rangers finally broke through against Felix Hernandez, who helped out by walking Ian Kinsler. With two outs, Michael Young singled, sending Kinsler to second.
The Rangers then pulled off a double steal, which proved to be a key play when Hernandez bounced a ball four pitch to Hamilton that got away from the catcher and Kinsler scored from third.
