Hanley Ramirez To Sign Six Year Deal. . . With Marlins

Note to Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Cubs, etc.

Keep your hands off of Hanley Ramirez. Multiple sources are reporting that Hanley Ramirez will sign a six year deal, believed to be worth $70 million, with the Florida Marlins. It would be the Marlins biggest financial commitment ever. He is the face of the franchise and most definitely worthy. He won the NL Rookie of the Year in 2006 and last year put up MVP-like numbers (which were better than Jose Reyes and Jimmy Rollins, thanks for asking). Also factor in that his numbers could be even better if he didn't play in a pitchers park. No matter, Hanley is a beast that anchors an underrated lineup in Miami.

Nice deal for the Marlins. Things are looking good in Miami. First place ahead of the Phils.

Hanley's my favorite player. I'm so glad that he's probably gonna stay there, versus getting traded to a team I don't like.
This is sorta like the Longoria deal, but a bigger deal.
Gets rid of his arbitration for the 2 or 3 years, I don't know how many it is.
Gives him security if he got seriously injured.
And the Marlins actually have an official franchise player.
Hopefully they get a ballpark deal done.

It's a little different from the Longoria deal considering Hanley has been in the bigs for 2+ years and Longoria has been in the bigs basically 2 months. Also, the ballpark deal is done. They have demolished the Orange Bowl and will begin building in November.

I know, that's the only part I left off. And thus, Hanley got more money cause he's been there longer. Now that I think about it, Tulowitski's deal is more like this cause he's more experienced than Longoria.

I think this will be a trend now. The Brewers will try this with Fielder and Braun, Devil Rays with Upton, and the DBacks, they have a ton of young talent but not a lot of money.

Funny that Tampa Bay and the Marlins start a possible trend like this!

I never thought I'd see the Marlins sign a player to a contract like this. This deal does take up about half of their salary cap though.

Thier "salary cap" will increase once they get their new ballpark they will be able to be a mid market team.

He may be the best player in baseball. The Sox traded him to Florida for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell. It was a great deal for both teams.

Good for Hanley! This must mean the Marlins will stay in Florida. Good for them! This is a Phillies fan by the way. :)

The Marlins actually made a great move FOR ONCE!!!! He's a fixture on the Marlins roster.

Shit this sucks i was hoping the Sox would be able to bring him back when he went to free agency in a few years.

I still have hope that Theo will pull something off in a few years if the Marlins run into trouble with the contract. That was a great move for the Marlins. I hope he has a great career either way. I

It's good to see that the Marlins are willing to give a proven young player money especially considering the talent that Hanley has. It looks like things are starting to get good in Miami. They could be a very dangerous team come the end of the year.

I totally agree with you. He's coming into Tropicana Field soon and I can' wait to see him.

Dewey,
With all due respect, the Yankees don't need him. They've got enough players....they need to spend less money on high profile players and more time trying to get Torre back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mike
