Baseball Musings:
Ichiro Suzuki collects one hit in five at bats to lower his batting average .372 as the Mariners defeat the Dodgers 4-2. That lowers his the probability of his hitting .400 on the season as the odds for him doing it based on a 162 are about 1 in 6300, and based on a [...]

Mariners' 3B Beltre will have shoulder surgery
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Seattle Mariners third baseman Adrian Beltre will undergo surgery to have bone spurs removed from his troublesome left shoulder.
More from Jack Zduriencik on Beltre, Langerhans, Ackley
In the course of talking to Jackie Z about the Langerhans trade, I asked him if he was going to pursue a third baseman now that Adrian Beltre is headed for the DL. Here's his answer:
"I think you leave all your options open. Obviously, there have been a lot of talks over the last month on a lot of different scenarios. Nothing is imminent. At this moment, I don't anticipate...
Mariners win on eve of losing Beltre to surgery
Jose Lopez had three hits including a two-run double, Adrian Beltre singled home a run in his last game before undergoing shoulder surgery, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 on Sunday.
Mariners' Adrian Beltre having surgery
Beltre had the same operation last Sept. 18, performed by Dr. Edward Khalfayan, the Mariners' medical director. This surgery will be performed on Tuesday by Dr. Lewis Yocum, the Angels' team orthopedist. It's uncommon, but not unheard of, for bone spurs to return after being removed.
In praise of Felix, and other post-game tidbits
Most of the non-Beltre talk in the clubhouse was about Felix Hernandez's dominating performance.
Here's what catcher Rob Johnson had to say: "His stuff was unbelievable,'' His four-seamer was cutting like crazy. It cut six inches. His sinker was sinking a foot. It was unbelievable. Like I told Wak, his ball was doing crazy stuff, but it's so much fun.'...
Game thread, June 27, Mariners vs. Dodgers (with Bedard update)
Erik Bedard, out since June 7 with shoulder inflammation, threw a bullpen session before today's game. He threw 40 to 45 pitches.
"He said he felt as good as he has in a long time,'' Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu said.
Rather than have Bedard throw a simulated game,as originally planned, Bedard will instead throw another bullpen session in a few days, raising his...

Mr. April has officially passed Mr. October on baseball’s all-time home run list.
Alex Rodriguez hit home run No. 564 to help the Yankees beat the Mets 9-1 on Friday night, moving past Reggie Jackson into 11th place on the career list.
“The negativity that surrounds the steroids is certainly not something that I carry over to [...]
Mariners' Saturday lineup
Three homers by Andre Ethier earns him a bump from seventh to fifth in the Dodger lineup. Wonder if two players named Russell have ever opposed each other, besides these two?

The Seattle Mariners acquired outfielder Ryan Langerhans from the Washington Nationals in exchange for infielder Mike Morse.
Langerhans, 29, has not appeared in the major leagues in 2009 but has 474 games of experience with the Braves, Athletics and Nationals. In his career, he has a .233 batting average, [...]
Talkin' Baseball
About once a summer the need to talk baseball just overwhelms me and I have to throw out a few thoughts on how to fix the Seattle Mariners. There's been a lot of scuttlebutt lately about how the M's might actually be buying in this year's trading deadline derby. If you ask me, that would be a missed opportunity of a lifetime. Yes, the M's are in the AL West race but the only way...
