I think the Mets have bigger issues to address this offense then catcher but I keep hearing grumblings that they may look into upgrading offensively at catcher. If they did I would keep Schneider and move on from Castro. Schneider had an unusually interrupted season due to nagging injuries but Castro is consistently out do to injuries, in fact he never misses a trip to the DL in August. If I had my pick I would trade for Bengie Molina and platoon him with Schneider based on pitching match-ups, which would also keep both veterans healthy. But here is another alternative to back-up Schneider, Josh Bard has elected for free agency. The 30 y/o switch hitting catcher missed most of last year with an ankle injury after a collision at the plate. Bard when healthy is an offensive catcher, he is a lifetime .265 hitter and that's playing his home games in Petco Park. In his first two full time seasons he hit .338 and .285 respectively (2006-2007). If he has a clean bill of health he would be t...

It's the little things

Don't sweat the small stuff, but don't tell Mets manager Jerry Manuel that. According to Manuel, the small stuff is the reason the Mets are watching, instead of playing ? again ? this October.

Burgos turns himself in...................

Mets pitcher Ambiorix Burgos turned himself in Tuesday night, a week after police say he was involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed two women. Authorities were interviewing him, prosecutor Raul Quiroz told The Associated Press. The news comes after the mother of one of the two victims accused Burgos of intentionally running her daughter over because she refused...

Top 11 reasons to root for the Rays

11. By losing the Devil from their name and becoming good, they make your older relatives think that something in the world still makes sense 10. There's a reasonable chance that you might be the most famous Rays fan 9. They are so young, the average player is only making 10 times your annual salary, not 100 8. With so many pro wrestlers in the fan base, not rooting for them...

Mets Rumors: Manny Ramirez, Players that might be on the outs!

One GM said he believes the Mets will make a big play for Manny Ramirez. It certainly seems like GM Omar Minaya is ready to finally try to land one of his favorite players -- though L.A. may be a better spot for Ramirez, who was raised in upper Manhattan but never liked the fishbowl existence in Boston that he would surely find in New York. The Mets have a group of players they...

Bring Orlando to our side of the Hudson!

a??Extending Omar was a questionable decision. a??Resigning Jerry Manuel was a good decision, with a few gray areas to ponder over the next few years. a??Picking up Carlos Delgado's option was a heartfelt thank you for outstanding work, but also a borderline baseball move for a team desperate for long term stability. However, in this young offseason, only [...]

Santana has surgery on knee

The Mets acknowledged that Johan Santana had arthroscopic surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Agent Chris Leible tells the Daily News that Santana actually had been banged up for a month, but had vowed to complete the season with the injury. Santana knew his knee had trouble, but didn't want to know the extent until after the season. The diagnosis was made...

Manuel has not accepted any deal yet!

The Mets' plan to bring back Jerry Manuel as manager is not going as smoothly as anticipated. A person familiar with the situation told Newsday Wednesday night that the team has offered Manuel a two-year contract to return, but he has yet to accept the deal.During the final month of the season, Manuel gave every indication that he wanted the job, and certainly deserved a shot after...

K-Rod might not be the answer...

I have been promoting the go get K-Rod, but I have noticed a couple of  things during the playoffs. He is not as overpowering as we all thought, though he has saved more games than the whole Mets bullpen this year. The other problem is he will demand a high price tag because of his new saves record. The Mets have to be careful here and even though he is 26 he might have arm problems...

Minaya has some concerns about K-Rod!

Minaya will go back to work If the Mets were all-in with general manager Omar Minaya, they had to be all-in with manager Jerry Manuel. It was Manuel who turned the mood positive and got the Mets playing productively after he replaced Willie Randolph in mid-June, so he was rewarded with a two-year extension. But Minaya still has his work cut out. Top priority...

Here's an alternative for 2B

Most see the Mets picking up a large chunk of Luis Castillo's contract and then signing Orlando Hudson. While that sounds like a great plan, Hudson's not the only 2B who could replace Castillo. How about a 3o y/o former batting champion and two time All-Star. It's reported that the Pirates will shop Freddy Sanchez this winter, in an off year Sanchez hit .271 but is a career...

Should they stay or should they go?

Last week, I took a peek at the hitters and pitchers from the 2008 Mets to see who should stay and who should go. Now, we'll take a look at the coaching staff.

K-Rod put together a record-setting season, compiling a major-league record 62 saves. Where will he be dressing next season? Rodriguez becomes a free agent after the World Series. The Mets, who are coming off Collapse II, have a nightmare...
