PLAYERS: Carlos Beltran
TEAMS: New York Mets

Before I get 100 E-Mails killing me, please be aware that I think Carlos Beltran is the best player on the team. Beltran truly is a five tool player and a leader on this team, since he went down on June 22nd the team has fallen apart, prior to Beltran leaving the team was able to compete through all the other injuries.I expect Beltran to return at 100% for next season but at 33 y/o with a history of knee injuries, this might be the last chance for the Mets to unload him for a major package. This team needs significant changes next year and while I see Reyes, Wright, Santana and Rodriguez as untouchable, Beltran might be our biggest chip. I could see a team that feels they need a veteran center fielder paying a top package, including whatever monetary considerations it would take to waive his no-trade clause. If in moving Beltran we received some quality, young starting pitching and allowed us to sign/trade for a power bat left fielder then I could live with a platoon of Sullivan and...

The Time To Trade Wagner Is Now

Every day that goes by that the Mets hang onto Billy Wagner, is a decline in the return on what they could get for him via a trade. Commentary: Would Santana be happier with Twins?

The Mets have made Johan Santana ridiculously wealthy, but they haven't been made into a playoff team despite the presence of the former Twins star.

Francoeur Merely a Relative Answer

Make no mistake: I love the work of Marty Noble. After I finish writing at the ballpark, I sometimes check his leads from my phone- the elegance of prose and significance of the point are always a joy to read. And his recent article praising the offensive work of Jeff Francoeur has a certain deadline imperative- [...]

New York Mets Reach Worst Part Of Disappointing Season...Irrelavence

Irrelevance (adj), definition: Not connected with or relative to something. At some point during the season, most teams out of playoff contention become irrelevant to their sport. The media scrutiny dies down, the fans become apathetic, and the players look like they are just going through the motions. While it may take longer for a team in baseball to become irrelevant, it is also...

In his Hardball column for The NY Post, Joel Sherman examines what the Mets should do in the offseason to get the team back to being competitive next year. He notes that the club is likely to operate with a smaller payroll in 2010 because of the financial hit owners Fred and Jeff Wilpon have taken this year, but they'll still need to address positions like catcher, first base...

Why Jonathan Sanchez Does Not Belong in the Giants' Starting Rotation

Even without throwing a no-hitter, the entire baseball world was aware that Jonathan Sanchez had no-hit talent. And to use the stereotypical baseball phrase, Sanchez has what fans and scouts a like refer to as "electric stuff." But as Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow so eloquently states time and time again, pitching is "upsetting the timing of the hitter." Not...
