*Still located in a pancreas near you I used that headline, more or less, when Ryan Langerhans hit a game-ender against Tampa Bay in the 11th inning on Aug. 7, and I'm never one to shy away from beating a good joke into the ground. Or even a bad joke. In that game, Langerhans entered the game as a pinch-runner in the seventh. This time, he took over in right field in the ninth after Ken Griffey Jr. pinch-hit for third baseman Jack Hannahan in the bottom of the eighth. Bill Hall moved from right to third, and Langerhans became the right-fielder. Don Wakamatsu noted that the addition of Hall gave him the versatility to make a move like that with Ichiro unavailable because of a calf injury. Read more...

Langerhans' HR in 10th tops A's

Ryan Langerhans had one of the briefest stays with Oakland in team history, spending two days with the A's on the road in 2007. On Tuesday night at Safeco Field, Langerhans entered the game late as a defensive replacement and wound up beating the club he'd...

Griffey on return to Seattle: 'I'm having the time of my life'

Our man C. Trent Rosecrans recently ran down Ken Griffey Jr.(notes) for a great interview that touches on everything from his complicated feelings toward the Reds to Gary Carter's white guy curl to the evolution of his 21-season Hall of Fame-caliber career. The session's best moments, however, come in Griffey talking about his return to Seattle, his relationship with teammates...

Seattle Mariners tell Ichiro Suzuki to rest strained left calf

The Seattle Mariners are slowing Ichiro Suzuki's return from tightness in his left calf.

Mariners' Monday lineup: No Ichiro, Jack Wilson back

Ichiro, who strained his left calf yesterday in Cleveland, isn't starting today. Brad Lefton just noted to me that it might be the first time in Ichiro's career that he has missed a game with that type of injury -- a muscle strain or pull. Brad could recall him missing games once because he ran into the wall, once after getting hit in the head with a pitch, and, of course...

Wild card race for Mariners, other teams, means a lot of standing still

Good time for a sweep by the Mariners, who had been finding new and creative ways to lose on their last road trip. But this sweep of the Oakland Athletics, capped last night, means the Mariners and RBI-man Jose Lopez are back to playing above .500 ball in August, checking in at 13-11. Not bad for a team that could have shriveled up and died the final two months. But no, the Mariners...

A's notebook: Hannahan settling in with M's amid familiar faces

Hannahan settles in with M's amid familiar facesSEATTLE — When Jack Hannahan got traded from the Detroit Tigers to the A's in August 2007, it was a golden opportunity to get major league playing time.

Junior shows old pop in M's 3-1 win over A's

Despite the mound struggles in Pittsburgh, despite his personal issues at the end of his tenure there, the Mariners were convinced Ian Snell still had magic in his right arm.
