Nats Sign Hernández; Send Balester to Syracuse - The PostNats sign Hernandez to ease burden on young arms - The Wash. Times¡LIVAN! has returned! The Nationals original, Opening Day pitcher, #61 on your roster and #1 in the heart of one distinguished blogger, has been signed to eat up innings like he was at a buffet. I'm pretty sure he knows a thing or two about the latter.¡LIVAN! isn't what he was during his first D.C. stint, but he tends to perform well in new environments for a little while, so I'm thrilled with this move. The team can "protect" some of their pitching "prospects" in the minors now. He also won't be around to beat the Nats brains in like he did with the Mets. Perhaps he can be a teacher for the young staff as well.Collin Balestar was demoted to Syracuse to make room in the rotation for ¡LIVAN! Dmitri Young was put on the 60 day disabled list as well. Ryan Zimmerman Productive by Every Measure Available
(by Jeff Bergin) The 2009 season was slated as a make or break year for Ryan Zimmerman. After posting numbers in the .290/20/90 area for two seasons, many pegged Zimm as a low power yet...
Balester unravels against Brewers
The reason Collin Balester still factors prominently in the Washington Nationals' plans for the future is because he has the kind of as-of-yet unrefined pitching talent scouts pounce on and managers dream about. The mid-90s fastball, the big-breaking curveball and Balester's 6-foot-5 frame are such well-worn staples of the pitching pedigree, it seems impossible for talent...

101 Years of Futility and Counting? Boycott, Cubs Fans
by Jay MariottiFiled under: MLBCHICAGO -- Tuesday night, in keeping with masochistic tradition, 40,000 fans will file into an ancient ballpark, ignore the reality of the standings and root for the Cubs to beat the Washington Nationals. They'll do so even though the Nationals, I dare say, might be better than the Cubs these days. This would be the ideal evening to boycott the...
