None other than ex-Seattle resident Kenneth Gorelick, otherwide known to music fans as Grammy Award winning saxophonist Kenny G. Had a chance to chat with the G-Man himself for a bit, not-too-slyly interrupting his rehearsal of the Star Spangled Banner, which he's here to play tonight. As I type this, he's down on the field having a prolonged talk with Ken Griffey Jr. But moments ago, we were speaking. He was very interested in all of the Japanese media swarming the field. Asked me where Ichiro was and I pointed him out. He seemed impressed that I had a Fuji TV crew following me around. But was more intrigued by Ichiro. We were in the middle of talking when a certain Mariners relief pitcher walked up. "Hey remember me?'' Miguel Batista asked, extending his hand. I replied that yes, indeed, I did remember Batista, since we'd chatted just the other day. Batista ignored the quip. Kenny G., for a split second, hesitated and then said "Yes, of course I do.&#...

Miguel Batista to miss series in Texas tending to family issues

We're in a rain delay situation here in Texas. It's expected to last at least one hour, with an update expected at 6 p.m. Pacific time. Plenty of Ichiro fans here to see whether he'll notch a record ninth straight 200-hit season. But I'll tell you what, if they don't get this game in tonight, he might not set the record until he's back in Seattle. Folks here were expecting rain tomorrow...

Ichiro mania grips Japan, Mike Sweeney too

No, this isn't a sign Mike Sweeney is headed to the Japanese League next season. Sweeney was on the field for pre-game stretching and saw some fans down the right field line, one of them wearing a Team Japan jersey with Ichiro's name on it. So, he did what Sweeney would do. Borrowed the jersey and came running over to lead the stretching routine. Kind of what Ichiro would...

Mariners settle on Morrow for Friday

Good news for the Rangers: Brandon Morrow will indeed be Seattle's starting pitcher Friday for the opener of a three-game series with the Rangers, who have enjoyed facing the hard-throwing right-hander this season. He had been scratched a few days ago to pitch in a Triple A playoff game, but that won't happen now. There reportedly are concerns that Morrow has a blister and...

The Kenji Situation

Perhaps one of the more important stories of the winter that has gotten very little coverage so far is how the teams situation with Kenji Johjima gets resolved. We’ve all watched as he’s seen his offense take a step back the last two years, and while his work throwing out runners this season has [...]-- This post came from: U.S.S. Angels 6, Mariners 3: Ian Snell pitching into sixth is all that mattered tonight

This bullpen situation is a lot more precarious than the team is letting on. And that's why panic must have started to set in when Ian Snell was working on his 30th pitch of the night, having notched just one out in the first inning. But Snell got through that frame on 33 pitches in a game his team went on to lose 6-3. The Mariners were never in this one after that four-run first...

Brandon Morrow Should Be in the Seattle Mariners Bullpen

Brandon Morrow should be kept around in the 2009 MLB off-season to be groomed as the team’s future closer. Morrow has been the subject of fan dismay for the past few seasons. After being drafted a handful of spots ahead of 2008 Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum, then bouncing between the bullpen and the starting rotation—by both his own and the front office’s volition...
