After Ross Ohlendorf threw gas in the mountains last week and followed that up with a start last night in which he averaged around 92 mph and topped out at almost 95, I thought it would be a good idea to go into the PitchFX (thanks to Brooks Baseball, as always) and track his average fastball velocity through the season.

SWEEP! SWEEP! SWEEP!
I still think that this team isn't as bad as their recent skid indicated and this sweep of the Brewers certainly makes things seem a little better after 12 losses in 13 games. Paul Maholm pitched well tonight and got some nice defense behind him. Delwyn Young turned a couple solid double plays, Lastings Milledge made a really nice play to cut a ball off in...

After two mid-year losing streaks, the Pittsburgh Pirates will have a record-setting 17th straight losing year in 2009. But they seem to be out of their mid-summer slump. And they have made some progress in the past year.
The sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers at home was encouraging. And Ross Ohlendorf and Paul Maholm (and their relievers) limited the Brewers to three runs in two games...
