Really? No, Really??!!

I don't really have much accompanying content for this blog post. I just wanted to write the headline above...well, because it's one of the scariest imaginable - scary because it's true. There are few headlines I've written that are as preposterous as the 10 words I just cobbled together.

After blazing through May with a 19-9 record and a walking wounded unit, the Mets are now limping out of Pittsburgh after a rain-shortened three-game series sweep. A bullpen implosion, a shockingly average start by Johan and a Pelfrey beatdown leave the Metros 3.5 back of the now-surging Phils with only a series against the Nationals protecting their crippled roster from the Phillies and Yanks back-to-back next week.

At 28-24, the Mets now need to end this mini losing streak. Problem solved? No, no, problem not solved...problem not solved! Enter stopper extraordinaire Tim Redding. Riiiight. TR, who has lasted 8.2 innings in his two starts giving up 13 earned on 16 hits (powerful stuff), is our savior. He must be called on to stop the bleeding. It has come to this.

The only question that now remains is how truly bad are the Nats. Hopefully, as awful as their record to date has indicated. Last go-around the Mets swept the Washingtonians in three-game set at Citi. For Redding's sake, and the plight of the Metros, such needs to be the case again in D.C. Otherwise, things might start getting ugly again real soon.
