TEAMS: New York Mets, Miami Marlins, Boston Red Sox
First I like to thank Mike Silva for referencing me in his post on this subject at NYBD and acknowledge the excellent argument he makes in regard to this subject. I will say this I have been a fan of Saito's for a few years and completed this post on him last off season, but Saito is 40 y/o, has had a history of injuries and would be expensive...But what the Mets learned in 2008 was that you need a back-up plan at closer in case of an injury, with J.J. Putz gone the Mets once again have untested players attempting to become the set-up man and eventually the closer...Brain Stokes has 7 career saves, Pedro Feliciano 13 career saves, Sean Green 11 career saves and Elmer Dessens 11 minor league saves. The Mets either need to bring in as many arms that could close as possible such as Kiko Calero (7 career saves) or sign a legitimate set-up man with closer experience like Saito ( 83 career saves)....According to Sponichi, Takashi Saito has eight teams interested, including the White S...

Cora close to returning...
Reports indicate that the Mets are close to a deal for Alex Cora, if the reports are accurate it's a one year deal for 2MM with a vesting option for the second year.Look, I'm not going to make a big deal about this but 2MM for a weak hitting middle infielder with limited range seems expensive. I know he's a great clubhouse guy and the Mets think he's basically a coach...
What To Do About John Maine?
This off season John Maine is a potential non-tender candidate and there has been talk that the Mets will non-tender him today, the deadline for offering your players arbitration. The Mets can still sign Maine if they do non-tender him but being non-tendered is sought of like being fired and the club telling you you’re [...]
Nice To Have Cora Back But What’s With This Contract?
The Mets resigned free agent infielder Alex Cora yesterday. The deal calls for Cora to be paid $2 million for the 2010 season. I like this deal on the surface but when you break it down it looks pretty bad.
$2 million for a backup. Cora is a backup middle infielder whose recent experience [...]
Eight Teams Interested In Takashi Saito
The White Sox, Cubs, Braves, and Mets make up half of the eight teams interested in signing right-hander Takashi Saito, according to Patrick Newman at NPB Tracker.Saito posted a 2.43 ERA in 55.2 IP for the Red Sox last year, in what was maybe his least effective MLB campaign. In 245.1 innings over four seasons in Los Angeles and Boston, Saito's ERA is a minuscule 2.01. Although...
The Alex Cora Signing
It is easy to like the signing of Alex Cora, especially if you have any dealings with Alex Cora.
The hard part is reconciling it with the needs of the 2010 Mets.
But by signing Alex Cora to a one-year, $2 million contract for 2010, the Mets are showing willful indifference to the offensive, defensive and financial [...]
Cora agrees to $2M, 1-yr deal to stay with Mets
Alex Cora is staying with the New York Mets, agreeing to a $2 million, one-year contract.
Cora works out $2M deal with Mets
In an expected move, the Mets re-signed veteran infielder Alex Cora yesterday to a one-year deal worth $2 million.
A popular clubhouse presence, Cora has $1 million in incentives tied to games started, and there is a $2 million option for 2011 tha...
Mets keep backup infielder Cora
Infielder Alex Cora, a clubhouse leader who played with torn ligaments in both thumbs before having late-season surgeries, is returning to the Mets in 2010. Cora, 34, signed a $2 million deal, which matches last season's salary.
Phillies Talk To Red Sox About Mike Lowell
As we heard earlier in the offseason, the Boston Red Sox have put Mike Lowell on the trade block. It’s more of a let’s see what kind of market there is for him thing than anything else at this point.
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Philadelphia Phillies have had brief talks with the Red [...]

Material for This Day In Red Sox History is drawn from Bill Nowlin’s “Day by Day with the Boston Red Sox”
The Red Sox shipped OF Bill “Rudy” Schlesinger and cash to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for pitcher Ray Culp… Schlesinger played just one game in the big leagues (with the Red Sox - on [...]
Orioles executive Krivsky leaves for position with Mets
Navy's Chris Harris named Player of Week
Wayne Krivsky , one of Andy MacPhail 's top assistants in the Orioles' front office for the past year, has left the organization to take a similar position with the New York Mets, team sources confirmed. Krivsky, who joined the Orioles in November as special...
Do The Red Sox Really Need Roy Halladay?
When I first saw the pre-Thanksgiving report that the Boston Red Sox were putting on the full court press of Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Roy Halladay, all I could say is why.
You have a potential rotation of Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Clay Buchholz and Tim Wakefield in 2010. Of course if the Red [...]
The Boston Red Sox Will Be Lucky To Get A .500 Record In 2010
-Please note that yes I am a Yankees fan, however, this will be a very well done article, even though I will bash the Red Sox. -Please further note that all of this will come true and I will be laughing at the end of next year...Read the full article on Bleacher Report...
Do Red Sox Prefer Holliday Over Bay?
How much do you trust the information of "one rival executive?" Such a source makes for the basis of the latest blog post from Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. This exec told the FOX writers that the Red Sox prefer Matt Holliday over Jason Bay, and do not intend to re-sign Bay despite ongoing negotiations.
