It's hard to keep up with all the rosters moves, but Pat Misch was recalled with Nick Evans and is scheduled to join the rotation on Friday. I'm curious to see how Misch does for the rest of the season, we can control him next year and the young lefty may end up in our plans come spring training.I have very few expectations for Lance Broadway, basically he was a throw-in to get Ramon Castro out of town, when he wore out his welcome. Broadway's numbers in AAA and his brief major league stints are awful, basically he's a roster filler on a bad team with no prospect ready to call-up. Righthander Lance Broadway, who was acquired from the White Sox for Ramon Castro, is being promoted by the Mets to replace Oliver Perez. source Daily News

Latest Season Ending Injury May Actually Improve The Team

In the ongoing saga of the 2009 Mets, here is the latest chapter. The Mets report, Mets pitcher Oliver Perez today was examined by Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. Upon the exam, Perez was diagnosed with patella tendon tendinosis in his right knee, which will require season-ending surgery. He [...]

Mets still trying to convince Wagner to OK trade

With minutes to go before the deadline for a trade, the Mets are apparently making a last-ditch effort to try to get star reliever Billy Wagner to change his mind and go to Boston. Sources indicate they are talking about it now, though it may be an uphill battle as Wagner has been pretty resistant to a deal.

Yardwork: Walk-off Happy Rockies Cut Dodgers Lead to Two

Yesterday the Mets had a conference call with reporters to announce that Johan Santana will be shut down for the remainder of the season. Sounds pretty simple, but these are your New York Mets. During that call, Omar Minaya revealed he forgot his ace had an injury to the same elbow in the spring by [...]

Mets-Marlins Series Preview.

The roles have certainly changed. The past two seasons, it has been the Marlins attempting to play the role of the spoiler. However with the injury ravaged Mets coming into town, these same Marlins look to take full advantage and keep pace in the NL East and Wild Card races. Meanwhile, our Mets are simply looking to keep respectability and avoid the cellar I suppose. With Johan...

Wagner Puts on his Sox

The Red Sox completed a deal for Billy Wagner: The lefthanded, long-time closer, who was claimed on waivers from the New York Mets on Friday, waived his no-trade clause this afternoon after the Red Sox and Mets worked out a trade before the 1:30 p.m. deadline. The Red Sox will pay the remainder of Wagner’s salary [...]

Mets trade reliever Wagner to Red Sox

The New York Mets have traded reliever Billy Wagner to Boston.

Their interest in Wagner wasn’t sudden

Billy Wagner is 38 years old and recovering from major elbow surgery, and he has joined a Red Sox team in an intense playoff race. The Sox believe Wagner can help them, a determination they were forced to make quickly and one requiring far more than a simple trip to New York.

Hernandez solid in return, but bullpen isn't

CHICAGO | The sight of Livan Hernandez on the mound wearing a curly W on his head Wednesday night was enough to tug at the heartstrings of any long-suffering - OK, brief-suffering - Washington Nationals fans who remember a time not long ago when the crafty right-hander was carrying this franchise to the best record in the National League. Washington's surprising re-acquisition...

NL East Series Preview 8-25-09 through 8-27-09

The Philadelphia Phillies(72-50, 1st in NL East) were able to stay hot this weekend as they visited the ailing New York Mets, not such a surprise.  They now have a seven game lead over the second place Braves as they travel to interstate rival Pittsburgh for a three game set.  There are not many holes [...]

Pierzynski Perfect Fit For Flushing

The Mets, as we know, are in the midst a miserable season and changes need to be made. One of the areas of major discontent has been behind the plate. For two years Brian Schneider has been less than a competent hitter. Many say his defense and game calling make up for his inability to [...]

Odds And Ends: Santana, Sano, Zambrano

More links, with less than a week remaining for contenders to add pieces... Pete Abraham of the Journal News says the Brian Cashman and the Yankees were smart not to trade for Johan Santana, even though it seems likely that the Mets will get their ace back.  Matthew Carruth of FanGraphs argues that Santana won't likely be worth the $90MM-plus remaining on his extension...

Chris Carter Going To The New York Mets Update

Update Chris Carter, one of the players rumored to be going to the New York Mets in the Billy Wagner deal, won’t be going to the Mets anytime soon. The Boston Red Sox placed Chris Carter on waivers (customary for a player like Carter), and he was claimed by, of all teams, the New York Yankees. Now that Carter was claimed by the Yankees, the Red Sox have pulled him back...
