Pirates blogs react to Milledge, Hanrahan
(by Ian Koski) Pirates' fan blogs seem to agree that Pittsburgh got the better end of Tuesday's four-player deal. Not surprisingly, neither Joel Hanrahan nor Sean Burnett emerge as factors in most of their assessments, which tend to look at Lastings Milledge as a big-hitting player with lots of potential versus Nyjer Morgan as a mediocre speed player past his prime.
Game 77: Cubs at Pirates
Lilly and Ohlendorf at 7.
...adding ... Pirates make two trades today. First Hinske to New York for some minor leaguers and then, as Dejan Kovacevic reports here: Nyjer Morgan and Sean Burnett for Lastings Milledge and Joel Hanrahan.
There will be a cascade effect from this deal. Bottom line is no padded cage for Ryan Doumit. He will have to play the field as the Pirates trade away...
Mama Told Me There’d Be Days Like These
Joel Hanrahan: From Roberto Clemente nominee to traded
There’d be days like these my mama said. (And remember, my mom is a lifelong Cubs fan so she’d know)! Quite a shakeup over the last few days. I’m sure they’re not done yet. Joel Hanrahan and Lastings Milledge (who I never did high five) were traded to [...]
Lastings Milledge for Nyjer Morgan: an offer we couldn't refuse
I see that the trade is confirmed now, so I thought I'd share my thoughts quickly before the gamethread goes up. What this trade comes down to is this: a rebuilding team can never turn down a trade that offers a net talent gain as big as this one does for the Pirates. I'm not trying to knock Nyjer Morgan here, either, but Morgan is what he is; he's a great defensive player...
Pirates at it again: Nyjer Morgan traded to Washington
Just when you find yourself becoming a fan of a Pittsburgh Pirate he gets taken from you. Bay, Nady, McLouth, and now fan-favorite Nyjer Morgan has been shown the door. At least this time we’ve actually heard of the player(s) coming back to Pittsburgh in the trade. MLB.com has the info
WASHINGTON — The Nationals have [...]
Pirates, Nats Close To Swapping Morgan & Milledge
The Pirates already dealt Eric Hinske this morning, but they're still talking trades. Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Pirates are close to dealing Nyjer Morgan to the Nationals for Lastings Milledge. However, no deal is done at this point.
Pirates players 'wonder what's going on' with deals
Several Pirates players openly wondered whether adding Lastings Milledge's potential pop was worth another blow to the team's chemistry.
NOTEBOOK / Pirates deal pair of outfielders
The Pittsburgh Pirates, swapping outfielders at a rapid rate for the second successive season, sent Nyjer Morgan to the Nationals in a four-player deal involving Lastings Milledge and also shipped backup Eric Hinske to the Yankees on Tuesday. The Pirates...
A Conversation with Doug Mientkiewicz
Yesterday as I was Twittering away about the Morgan/Burnett trade, I received a “direct message.” For those of you that aren’t familiar with Twitter, a DM is a private message between only the sender and recipient, as opposed to the thousands of regular updates users send, which are free to be viewed by any number [...]
Nyjer who?
A very solid win by the Pirates helped ease the loss of Nyjer Morgan as they were able to shut out Chicago on Tuesday night.
Ross Ohlendorf was brilliant, making the Cubbies look foolish all night. 7 innings, 4 hits, no runs, no walks, 8 K’s. Cubs fans will blame their own hitters’ incompetence instead of [...]
Just a few more words about the trade
I feel like I didn't quite cover all the bases yesterday on this trade yesterday, so I'll put together one more post here about the things I feel like I missed.
As sad as a lot of people are to see Morgan go, I always liked Sean Burnett. I saw his first win back in 2004 as I guess because of that, I always had a special place for him as a fan. He went through a lot of stuff...
