The Peninsula Oilers of the Alaska Baseball League have signed Glen Johnson from the University of Jacksonville. Glen is a sophomore infielder from Hobe Sound, FL. The former New York Mets draftee is currently hitting g.244/.349/.411 in 86 at-bats this season. He has scored 19 runs, driven in 11 and has hit 1 homer this year. He has also stolen 4 bases for the Dolphins.

It was reported last week that Nick Evans was slumping in Buffalo (AAA) and might be sent down to Binghamton (AA). The Mets have decided that his slump is so prevalent that he's going all the way down to Port St. Lucie. Evans is hitting .093 and the Mets have decided to send him down to work with the instructional staff in Florida. I don't think I recall a prospect ever falling...

Yesterday I wrote about the rumors that Nick Evans would be demoted after a horrific start at AAA Buffalo. Late yesterday the shoe dropped as Evans was sent to the Mets minor league complex in St. Lucie for a few days of extended spring training before heading to AA Binghamton.

Gary Sheffield has been a pleasant surprise for the Mets — certainly not for his slow hitting start, but most definitely for his atypical, upbeat, team-first attitude. And his teammates seem to love him for it.
But I know one guy who probably wouldn’t have been too sad if the Mets passed on the former slugger a few months back.
