Maicer Izturis lined a single up the middle with two outs in the sixth inning to end Derek Holland's no-hit bid at 5 2/3 innings. The left-hander rebounded to strike out Erick Aybar to end the inning with a 3-0 lead. It was Holland's toughest inning as he threw 17 pitches to give him 62 through six innings. Awfully good stuff.

Vladimir Guerrero showed impeccable timing in reaching a milestone. He homered twice, including the 400th of his career that put the Angels ahead in the seventh inning, and Kendry Morales also hit two homers in an 8-7 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.

I can take a taut game as long as neither side (preferably the Angels' opponents) turns it into a blowout. This was a great game from that perspective — I sincerely would have enjoyed this even if the Angels had lost, just because the pitching was so good.
