Image by Getty Images via Daylife The first big move of the offseason for Beane was trading for Colorado Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday, in turn trading away closer Huston Street and top prospect Carlos Gonzalez. After that, Beane signed Jason Giambi, Orlando Cabrera, Nomar Garciaparra, and a barrage of veteran bullpen arms. This offseason was one of the first that saw Beane trade for big names instead of prospects. But with all those big moves, they have not converted to wins. The biggest problem is that the A’s ace of their staff, Justin Duchschere...

Jose Canseco Offered David Wells HGH in 2001

by Pat LackeyFiled under: MLB PEDsHere's a shocker: David Wells probably didn't take steroids during his 21-year playing career. Boomer told the New York Daily News on Sunday that while Jose Canseco offered him HGH in 2001, he declined performance enhancers both then and at other other available venue during his career. Jose Canseco offering David Wells' steroids sounds...

A's OF Sweeney heads to DL

The Athletics placed outfielder Ryan Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 3, with a sprained left knee.

Scary good for 7th straight

Oakland put one man on the disabled list Monday, had another out while attending the birth of his son, and lost a third during the game, when Aaron Cunningham was struck in the helmet by a fastball in the fourth inning. Even so, the A's pitching was enough -...

Game chat: Blanton brings personal win streak to LA

Make a list of the biggest reasons for the Phillies' recent hot streak and Joe Blanton is right at the top. The 28-year-old righthander tries for his fourth win in a row when the Phillies and Dodgers continue their series today at 4:10 EST. Hiroki Kuroda (1-1, 2.35) toes the slab for Los Angeles, who snapped the Phillies winning streak last night in the bottom of the ninth. As...

Gonzalez in center, Tulo gets another day to rest

ST. LOUIS — In explaining how Carlos Gonzalez could receive at-bats, manager Jim Tracy threw ou the possibility that the kid could spell Dexter Fowler in center. After Fowler fouled a ball off his calf last night — it’s tough luck since he had arguably his best offensive game — Gonzalez moved into the starting [...]

Cust, Holiday homer in A's win

Jack Cust and Matt Holiday each hit three-run homers, Dallas Braden matched his career high of seven strikeouts and the Oakland Athletics beat the Baltimore Orioles 9-1 on Friday night.

The bash is back in A's offense

Jack Cust's sore back was still bothering him enough before Friday night's game that he wondered if an extra night off might be a good thing. He decided to stick it out, however, which was a good thing for the A's in a 9-1 victory over the Orioles. Cust's...

A's beat Orioles, continue winning streak

OAKLAND -- Jason Giambi hit a three-run double that helped rookie Trevor Cahill end a three-start losing streak, and the A's won their season-best fifth consecutive game with a 9-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night. Orlando Cabrera and Adam Kennedy each doubled twice and drove in two runs. The first seven hits by the A's were doubles, but they...

Minnesota Twins (28-30) at Oakland Athletics (25-30), 10:05 p.m.

The Oakland Athletics will try to stretch their season-high winning streak to seven games this evening, when they kick off a four-game series versus the Minnesota Twins at the Coliseum.

Athletics complete sweep of Orioles with 3-0 win

Vin Mazzaro pitched seven sharp innings, Jason Giambi drew a bases-loaded walk in the first and the Oakland Athletics beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-0 Sunday for their season-high sixth straight win.

A's Don't Have To Make Trades

The A's are in last place, 7.5 games behind the Rangers and they've already been involved in their share of trade rumors, but as Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle reports, they don't have to shed payroll. Now riding a six-game win streak, the A's can hold onto players like Matt Holliday and Orlando Cabrera if they continue to win.The A's would receive...
