I have to say, in my opinion Oliver Perez is hands down the worst signing of Omar Minaya's reign. What makes things worse is that everything Perez has exhibited this year, could have been predicted prior to his signing and for this team it's exactly what they didn't need.Behind Johan Santana the Mets have too many variables, what they needed to sign was a consistent pitcher, not a pitcher known for being inconsistent. Ollie belongs on a team with a solid 1-2 punch rotation and a 500 level innings eater, where his contributions are less relied upon. By signing Ollie what Omar did was virtually bring in three pitchers at the same level ( Ollie, Maine, Pelfrey), that would tax the offense to compensate for their inconsistent starts and if the offense struggled the team was sunk. What compounds things is that Omar gave Ollie a #2 starters salary to be an inconsistent #4 level pitcher and passed on some more affordable but more consistent starters ( Garland/Wolf). Now the one...

What Do Met-Killer Dontrelle Willis and Oliver Perez Have in Common?
(Full Disclosure: with David Wright on the DL, it’s becoming harder to watch the Mets, let alone write about them. It’s too early to do a recap piece as well as what my offseason plans would be, but I got...
Sheffield, Mets light up Lowe and beat Braves 9-4
After failing to get a bunt down with two on in the fourth inning, pitcher Oliver Perez lined a two-strike single to right field.
Unexpected Offensive Outburst!
I have to be honest, after Oliver Perez gave up that homer to Adam LaRoche (the solo homer in the 3rd, not the three run homer he gave up to Matt Diaz in the 2nd)that gave the Braves what seemed at the moment, reasonably to be an insurmountable 4-0 lead, I switched it over to watch Pedro pitch. Just for the sake of my own sanity, you see. Oliver Perez has that effect on people...
Watch Megdal on SNY’s NYBT
NYBD contributor Howard Megdal was on SNY’s New York Baseball Today with Ted Berg. They discussed CC Sabathia and Howard’s favorite pitcher Oliver Perez. No worries, he didn’t bring up the MVP criteria, Joe Mauer, or Mark Teixeira. He did mention Derek Lowe, who I think would look real nice as a #2 behind Johan [...]
New York Mets: Who's Their Fifth Starter?
The Mets have their first three starters in order.
Johan is a clear ace. Mike Pelfrey is considered a No. 2, even if only by Mets management. Oliver Perez is so highly paid he has to be the No. 3 guy.
From there on, it’s been a roller coaster.
John Maine was the No. 4 starter at the beginning of the season, but he won’t be back to pitch this year, and Livan...
Kenshin Kawakami Shines In Big Games For Atlanta Braves
Atlanta Braves pitcher Kenshin Kawakami, with his 6-9 record, didn’t hit the major leagues with the huge splash some expected him to have this year. But when he faces some of the game’s best pitchers, he is lights out.
Kawakami outdueled Johan Santana is a series sweep of the New York Mets. The game was reminiscent [...]

Kenshin Kawakami does it again. Every time he goes up against a team’s top pitcher, he steps his game up. Kawakami outpitched Roy Halladay back in May...
Game 121 Recap: Braves 3, Mets 2
More photos » by Frank Franklin II - AP Browse more photos » We pulled off a pretty big win. In the process, we made Johan Santana look like a mere average pitcher, getting 3 runs on 9 hits off of him while only striking out twice. The Braves broadcasters nicknamed Kenshin Kawakami "The Dragon Slayer," for his ability to go up against the best pitchers in...

What's happening with our draft...
Look I know very little about the draft or minor leaguers, I rely heavily on what I read from sites I've grown to respect over the years.I know that when Omar took over, the farm was barren and the club was awful, resulting in the trading of what prospects they had and foregoing draft picks to sign free agents, I get that part of the equation. For the past two years there seems...

Fantasy Baseball Trading Advice: Mirror Images
The trade deadline is coming up around the corner in many fantasy baseball leagues.
If you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for some of the top players in the game, why not go after players of lesser value, who are putting up nearly identical stats? You might be able to return similar stats for a lot cheaper price, a...
