PLAYERS: Oliver Perez
TEAMS: New York Mets

Earlier today at Oliver Perez's press conference Omar Minaya insisted that his offseason work is complete. No more significant additions will be made as the offseason enters its final stretch. Omar is apparently confident and relatively satisfied with the current makeup of the team. In Joe D's blog earlier today he asked for your feelings on the current state of the team going into Spring Training and start of the 2009 season. I for one am very concerned about this teams offense. A fair share of fans aren't overly concerned with the current offense and based on their overall numbers last year, one would be hard pressed to disagree. However while many are aware of the Mets late inning struggles last season, I don't think many fans have a true grasp of just how bad the Mets where late in games and in clutch situations. While skimming through several Mets forums and blogs this evening I came across a post on mets.com with a link to the Mets situational hitting. To be ...

3 Pitchers Find Homes: Perez, Hill, and Wuertz

By Gary Two intriguing trades were consummated yesterday and both involved the Chicago Cubs. Additionally, one major free agent finally signed a contract. To kick the day off, the Chicago Cubs sent left handed pitcher Rich Hill to the Baltimore Orioles for the infamous player to be named ...

Great news on Ollie. As we reported yesterday, the deal was imminent, and now it is all but official (pending a physical). For more details please click here. I will follow up later this evening. NY Sports Dog--a Place for Mets Fans

Omar On Future Moves: That's All Folks!

Wow, Matt Cerrone did an excellent job of live blogging the Oliver Perez press conference. It felt like you were actually there in the way he delivered his content. Anyway, the big news other than the fact that the Oliver Perez signing was official, was that when Omar Minaya was asked about Manny Ramirez and any other additions, he was as clear as day. "There's not going...

As We Return...

The re-signing of Oliver Perez brings a familiar face back to the Mets. You know, to go along with a lot of other familiar faces.

What about Vidro.....

Omar Minaya at Oliver Perez's press conference today, virtually ruled out signing Manny, Abreu or any other significant players. While rumors will continue to swirl until these players are officially off the board, I just don't see it happening. If anything maybe we'll see another player brought ...

Perez Signing Announced

In a press conference this afternoon the Mets officially announced the signing of Oliver Perez to a three year, $36 million contract. Now Mets fans can focus on fixating on Manny Ramirez, a signing I don’t think will happen and is not necessary for the Mets to be a winning team.

Sheets May Need Surgery: Still Prefer Him To Ollie Now?

Sorry if the tile sounds sarcastic, it's not intended to be. I was the one who posted several times about how we should be making Ben Sheets our first priority rather than pursuing Oliver Perez. Today, I have to eat my words, and also offer a "you were right, I was wrong" to my fellow writers and readers who tried to warn me against the dangers of committing to him. There's nothing...

our second place team

"We like our team," Minaya said. "I'm ready to go with this team. We addressed our priorities, and our team today is better than it was at the end of last year."-Omar Minaya at the Oliver Perez press conferenceI don’t know if I’m being a tad extreme but I find something wrong with this statement. The Mets are still flawed and I worry about this team...

K-Rod 3 Years $37MM vs. Ollie 3 Years $36MM

Lost in the excitement of the Oliver Perez signing, is a very underreported yet very interesting fact. Most of us agree that the Mets overpaid to get the Oliver Perez deal done. It was a move I certainly won't argue with. But, now that the dust has settled, it's become apparent to me that we just gave Oliver Perez the same exact deal we gave to one of the top closers in...

Ollie reaches deal....

Multiple sources are reporting that Oliver Perez and the Mets have reached an agreement. Jon Heyman is reporting that the Mets signed Ollie to a three year deal worth approximately 36MM. My guess would be that the Mets truly never had any real competition for Ollie's services as they only ...

Oliver Perez signs…

[with the Mets, meaning that they likely won't be bringing back Pedro Martinez]. As we know, the Pirates are known to be interested in Martinez and the Mets seemed to be one of our biggest blockades due to their enormous assets. I’ve said that I would support signing Pedro: he brings a big ...

Mets getting close to signing Oliver Perez

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Mets seem closer than ever to retain Oliver Perez. The Mets are pushing to give Oliver 3 years plus a 4 year vested option. Perez, 27, was 25-17 with a 3.91 ERA the past two seasons with the Mets. He would rejoin lefty Johan Santana and righties John Maine and Mike Pelfrey in the team's rotation. The Mets will look find their...

Mets Sign Oliver Perez

Say what you want about about Perez, but know this: Know that he comes up big against the big teams.

Omar Minaya Addresses Our Concerns

This morning at 8:05 AM, Omar Minaya was a guest of Boomer and Carton on WFAN. Carton asked Omar to address the fans' desire for Manny Ramirez. I've been pretty clear this year that we would set out to improve our bullpen and our starting pitching. I feel very good about where we are right now. We're ready to go with this team. I did speak to Scott Boras after the Oliver Perez press...

With The Rotation Settled, It's Manny Time!

Wow, it was so great driving home from work knowing that Oliver Perez was back in the fold. Listening to all the excited Mets fans calling in on sports radio made the ride so enjoyable. It's amazing how one signing can lift your spirits after weeks of worrying about what our rotation would look like after Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey and John Maine. I don't think anybody...
