I'm headed down to Hotlanta tomorrow morning til tuesday for a wedding, so there are some cached posts on the way, but nothing substantial. Perhaps I shall just do a celebratory post of the Mets not making the playoffs now, and have it up on Sunday afternoon...

One More Time for Oliver's Army
Pinning the hopes of the entire season on the arm of an erratic, enigmatic lefty is a scary proposition.
Johan Santana keeps Mets alive
Johan Santana pitched one of the greatest games in the history of Shea Stadium today.
Nine innings, three hits, no runs...on three days rest. Santana has proven that he's the big game pitcher we all expected him to be.
Amazin'...simply Amazin'. But the Mets have lots of work to do. Ya Gotta Believe.
Mets activate Maine
The Mets New York Mets activated John Maine John Maine from the disabled list today.
Maine will work out of the bullpen, and though what he can offer is a question mark, his return at least provides intrigue.
Suffering from a bone spur in his right shoulder, Maine hasn't pitched since Aug. 23. But with the relief corps in deplorable shape, the Mets could turn to Maine for...
It's just not right to think this way, but.....
A lot has been written in past couple of days like this was going to be a piece of cake. For one , I thought the Mets would not do this again but you have to look at the team as a whole. The bullpen was one reason why we got there in 2006 and in 2007 it was the reason why we did not get there. The 2008 season has had it's ups and downs, but the bullpen is in shambles. The bats...
Leaadership by example....Beltran
Many have questioned Carlos Beltran's toughness, while I will admit his percentage assessments of his health ( by the way he says he's 80-90% now) are comical and he seems to be slow to recover especially for someone in such great shape, last night Beltran showed he's not soft. Clearly his knee and ribs are bothering him from the crash into the wall on Monday night but...
What Could Have Beena??
Johan Santana has clearly put up a solid season, but has been short changed by bad run support, fielding errors and a terrible bullpen. Here's a look at all the solid performances Santana pitched this year that resulted in a no decision or loss for the southpaw.
It's official: Santana will start Saturday
Desperate times call for desperate measures — and this is as close to desperation as the Mets will get this season.

Believe or Don’t Believe. But Don’t Pretend.
One hundred and sixty-two games. That's a lot of baseball.
Yet the previous 158 matter about as much as the empty promises we hear every offseason.
For the Mets, this is now a four game season. In these four games, they can win the division, the wild card, or simply go home early for the second [...]
Phillies Magic Number: Richie Ashburn
With the Phillies win combined with the Mets loss to the Marlins last night, the Phillies enter today with a magic number of one.
NY Mets: Situation Dire on Bonnie Brae
With a sinking feeling, I watched last night's action unfurl at Shea Stadium knowing full well that the Mets were hellbent on losing to the Chicago Cubs. Little did I know they would lose 9-6 in the 10th inning. Even when the Mets had the bases loaded, with one out in the bottom of the ninth, in a 6-6 tie, I could not overcome the dark doubt in the far recesses of my mind that...
Reader Beware: May Contain Over-analysis of Meaningless Cubs Game
You just can't put too much stock into any of the games the Cubs play this week, even if they're against potential playoff opponents playing for everything as the Cubs play for nothing. But if you consider them the practice tests before the Cubs have to take the ACT's next week, I think a few members of the Cubs need to do a cram session this weekend.

Cubs 6-7 Mets in Meaningless Affair.
Lou obviously didn't care to being with, and when the rain began falling on a tie game, he just tossed Howry and Cotts out to do their worst, which they did, combining with Kevin Hart to ensure there would be no suspended game. Onward to the Milwaukee series, where Dale Sveum has promised to try and sign Leo Hildebrand and slot him into the rotation.
Sheets will start Saturday for Brewers
Ben Sheets (13-8, 2.98 ERA) will make his scheduled start tomorrow night against the Chicago Cubs.
Sheets has not pitched since September 17 because of a sore right elbow. After throwing a 20-pitch bullpen session Thursday, Sheets said he's ready to pitch.
Mets Stat: Unlikely Win
The Mets overcame a three-run deficit to beat the Cubs Thursday night. How unlikely was the Mets' win? Entering the day, the Cubs had the second-best record in the major leagues in games in which they had a lead of at least three-runs (73-4) and the Mets had the worst record in the major leagues in games in which they trailed by at least three runs (1-52).
