PLAYERS: Robert Parnell
TEAMS: New York Mets

The Mets second best pitching prospect is trying to dispel the label of reliever. Robert Parnell has been projected as a top reliever but the pitching prospect has been starting since selected by the Mets in 2005. His first year wasn't very note worthy in 2006 but in 2007 he started 29 games going 8-8 with a 4.19 ERA between FSL and Binghamton. This year he started 24 games for AA Binghamton to which he produced a record of 10-6 with an ERA 4.30. After his first start in AAA ended as a successful win tonight Parnell took the mound for his second start. He cruised through the first four inning without allowing a hit or walk while striking out 9 but in the fifth gave up four runs and recorded his first loss in New Orleans. In all, over five innings he allowed four runs, on five hits while not allowing a walk and striking out 10.........Here's tonight's Zephyrs box score...

Interesting roster moves coming....

The Mets have three players currently on rehab assignment, once a player has completed the required disabled list days ( 15/60 days) and is cleared by the medical staff to resume baseball activities, the team is required to re-instate that player 20 days from his first rehab game ( 30 days pitchers).Of the three players Luis Castillo is the closest to returning but he's also...

Smoke Screen: Wagner will NOT be ready for Monday

As indicated in many reports, Most of them said that Billy Wagner will join the team on Monday. In the Denver Post it's a different story: Billy Wagner felt discomfort in his pitching elbow after throwing a simulated game Saturday and the New York Mets' closer won't come off the disabled list Monday as expected. Wagner, sidelined with a strained left forearm, threw...

Mets closer Billy Wagner is in Pittsburgh and will throw a simulated game Saturday afternoon. He was originally scheduled to pitch for Class-A Brooklyn Saturday.

Wagner to get examined Tues.

The Mets announced that Billy Wagner had a house call from doctor Struan Coleman on Sunday, with the conclusion that he has elbow stiffness. The closer, after a day off Monday, will have a more intensive examination Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery. sr_adspace_id = 3734407; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_adspace_type = "graphic"...

Church and Wagner coming along...., Wagner sooner - Church Later!

Church Factor: The seemingly endless Ryan Church Ryan Church saga took a positive turn yesterday when he made his first game appearance of any kind in nearly six weeks. Serving as the designated hitter, Church went 1-for-3 with an RBI single against the Cardinals' Gulf Coast League affiliate in Florida. He will play DH again today if he shows no symptoms of the post...

inGame: Mets 4, Pirates 0

The New York Mets (68-56) won their sixth straight game, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates (55-69) 4-0 at PNC Park Sunday afternoon.

Pelfrey under the microscope

In the eighth inning of last night's game, my e-mail inbox started filling up with messages from from Mets fans. Friends and fans asked, "Why did Manuel pull Pelfrey? He's only thrown 98 pitches. The bullpen is going to blow this … again … blah, blah, blah …"

Wagner down the Mets should get Reyes III

The Mets received very bad news today after Billy Wagner's simulated inning, Billy's forearm is fine but his elbow is now sore. Wagner will not be coming off the DL on Monday and is heading back to NY to have the elbow examined. The Mets have been piecing together saves since Wags went on the DL and were desperately hoping to get him back in the shortest amount of time.Many...

Mets Acquire Ayala

The Nationals traded relief pitcher Luis Ayala to the Mets today for infielder Anderson Hernandez. Ayala, who is 1-8 this season with a 5.77 ERA, requested a trade weeks ago because he needed a change of scenery. This is a great move for the Mets who acquire a pitcher who should be very effective playing for a contender. Before 2008, Ayala 's career record stood at 26-24 with...

Pat the bat a Met ?

What a familiar site, Phillies jersey #5 rounding the bases as a Mets pitcher puts his head down. If you look up Mets killer you will find Pat Burrell as the first example. It's been said that his last contract was specifically based on his production against the Mets. Approximately 20% of his HRs and RBIs have come against the Mets. Burrell is a free agent at the end of...

Pirates 7, Mets 5

Looked like another nondescript loss for the Pirates shortly after this one got under way. Zach Duke was getting lit up, the team made 3 errors in the first 4 innings, and the offense was doing nothing against a terrible Pedro Martinez. 5-1 after 6 innings.-----But, if nothing else, this team has give us reason to keep watching.-----The Pirates rallied for 3 in the 7th and 3 more...

GameDay #123 vs. Mets

Mets (66-56) at Pirates (55-67)7:05--PNC Park, PittsburghPedro Martinez (3-3, 5.37) vs. Zach Duke (4-10, 5.10)[Preview]---------Skyblast THIRD Strike tonight (Phil Vassar). Maybe we can actually win one of them.-And no, Pedro Alvarez is not going to play tonight. Everyone is absolutely ecstatic at the signing, though--as they should be (check any Pirates blog on the sidebar). It...

Church & Nixon returning do we need anyone else......

I've been a big advocate of the Mets obtaining another bat but now with the injured moving closer to returning I'm not sure if we need one. It's ironic to bring this up on a night when we win 2-1 against the struggling Pirates but the Mets found away to win without three of their projected starters. Because of the nature of Ryan Church's injury I have never expected...

Mets 7, Pirates 4

Zach Duke was destroyed.-The Pirate offense was weak, again. Andy LaRoche hit a solo shot and a mini-rally emerged in the ninth, but the Bucs just got 3 of the 6 they needed.-There really isn't much more to say. 13 games under .500 now. Things are bright for the future, but they aren't very bright at the moment.-Tom Gorzelanny dominated down at Indianapolis, taking a no hitter...
