Maybe this was the kind of change the Boston Red Sox were searching for as far as a celebration. It's not exactly the way they were hoping to do it, but it's finally official...the Red Sox are the American League Wild Card Champions and will face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the ALDS.The Angels took down the Texas Rangers 5-2 in the early morning hours to eliminate them from playoff contention. Now with that out of the way, Boston can focus on more important things such as prepping for the post-season. It's going to be an interesting ride.Left photo: A drenched Junichi Tazawa being interview by reporters after the Red Sox clinched the AL Wild Card early Wednesday morning (boston.com).Like what you see? TOR 11, BOS 5: Too Much To Ask

After pitching 2 1/3 innings of relief just last night, the Red Sox were not asking for extended innings from Michael Bowden on Monday night. Unfortunately, seven hits and seven runs over three innings wasn't quite what they had in mind. It was the rain that eventually stopped the bleeding in the seventh during the rain-shortened loss to the Blue Jays, 11-5. The bullpen, which...

TOR 8, BOS 7: Red Sox Clinch Playoffs With Loss to Blue Jays

Adam Lind and the Blue Jays came out firing, beating Clay Buchholz and the Red Sox, 8-7, on Tuesday. However, the Red Sox will cry themselves all the way into the post season, as the Angels worked their magic on the Texas Rangers, sealing a wildcard playoff berth for the Bo Sox. After a dominant start to the month, Clay Buchholz recorded his second less than stellar start, going...

Despite playoff berth, Red Sox management failed their fans Wednesday

As someone who spent the better part of a decade working for a successful minor league hockey team, I know that it's not easy working in a pro sports front office - especially when you're on top at the box office and in the standings. One of the most valuable lessons I learned was that no matter how successful your organization gets, you always need to listen to your audience...

REMEMBER THE MAGIC NUMBER IS ONE

Last night as I was perusing my Facebook feed I noticed a disproportionate number of my Red Sox fans complaining about the Red Sox game last night. In case you were like most of us and skipped it, you missed Josh Beckett missing a start and saw instead the craptastically ineffective performance of one Michael Bowden. The Blue Jays spanked the Sox all over the place, but please remember, the Wild

GIANTS 4, D'BACKS 1 / Eliminated, S.F. dusts Arizona as Penny rolls

To the surprise of many, the 2009 Giants stayed in contention for 158 games, or more accurately 1572/3. They were not eliminated by losing. They defeated Arizona 4-1 Wednesday night as Brad Penny ended a six-start audition with his first complete game since...

Some good news on this pair of aces

Although Josh Beckett was scratched last night because of back spasms and Jon Lester was struck in the quad by a line drive Friday night at Yankee Stadium, the Red Sox remain positive about the probability that both pitchers will be healthy once the postseason begins.
