Charlie Manuel had been somewhat tight-lipped regarding his game two starter for the World Series, but when he didn't immediately go with Cole Hamels, the writing was on the wall that we might see Pedro Martinez follow Cliff Lee in the rotation. Interestingly, neither pitcher was on the Phillies roster at the start of the season. Always fun to think back to spring training, when if someone had said, the Phillies will once again be in the World Series... and Cliff Lee and Pedro Martinez will get the first two starts...

King Cole, last year's World Series MVP, will pitch game three, the first back in Philly. Then, we'll either see Lee again, or either Blanton or Happ. My money's on Lee, but a lot will be determined by the performances and outcomes of the first three games.

What is your confidence level for each of the Phils' three starters in their respective slots for the Series? In Charlie's decision to go with Pedro?

Yankees-Phillies Pitching Comparisons: Part One

This is the fourth time this year I'm making one of these pitching comparison posts. The first was way back in March over at the Chuck Knoblog and things have changed big-time since then. Its a little longer than I originally anticipated and I've decided to split it up into two posts. One for the starters and one for the bullpen and my final prediction for the Series. I&...

Top 10 Game One Phillies-Yankees World Series Notes

10) Writing a notes column on a game and night like this is downright tricky. Do you refuse to write the lede ahead of time, knowing that baseball has no clock and if it turns, you will blame yourself for the jinx? Or do you wallow in the good fortune and trust that the man who has taken you this far, all the while looking like he's working against minor leaguers in Florida in...
