The magic number inches closer to zero after tonight's action on the baseball diamond. The magic number drops from 13 to 12. The Phillies won their game but the MArlins and Braves held on to win their respective games.Who better to represent the new magic number for the Phillies than Matt Stairs, the man who became a Philadelphia legend with one swing of the bat as he ripped one into the night. Stairs' two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning of game four of the 2008 NLCS put the Phillies in front of the Dodgers, setting up an exciting come from behind victory. How many people forget that Shane Victorino actually hit a two run home run in that same inning to tie the game? That was equally as exciting for me, but the Stairs moment is of mythic proportions and the kind of stuff they make movies of.
Of course Stairs will also be forever linked to the late Harry Kalas, as Stairs hit the final home run ever to be called by Kalas, who passed away the next day.
