Lidge's contract runs about the same length as some of the other core players: Chase Utley is signed through 2013, Jimmy Rollins is signed through 2011, Ryan Howard is under control (arbitration) until after the 2011 season, and Cole Hamels is under control until after the 2012 season. So, the Phillies should be competitive at least for the next two or three years.

"Lights Out" Lidge is locked up for another 3 years. The Phillies signed him to a 3-year $37.5 million extension. 19 saves and a 1.00 ERA in half a season will get you a nice pay day.

A report on MLB.com said to expect an announcement today that Phillies closer Brad Lidge and the Phillies have agreed to a 3-year, $37.5 million contract extension, with a club option in 2012. Lidge has not blown a save yet in 2008.
