Beerleaguer:
Right-handed reliever Tom Gordon has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation, according to the team Web site. Beerleaguer: Gordon has appeared in four games since missing 11 days with a sore right shoulder. He pitched yesterday, allowing a run in 2-3 of an inning. This isn't a surprise, although his elbow hasn't been the issue so much as the "balky" shoulder. He's pitching through a partially torn labrum and missed significant time with that ailment...

Utley, Lidge Named To All Star Team
Phillies' second baseman Chase Utley has been named to his third straight all-star team, while closer Brad Lidge has been named to his second, as the lone two Phillies name to the squad this year. Utley is this year's top vote getter in the National League, the first Phillies to do so since fan voting began in 1970.
"It's pretty surreal to be honest with you...
Phillies Extend Lidge
Lidge's contract runs about the same length as some of the other core players: Chase Utley is signed through 2013, Jimmy Rollins is signed through 2011, Ryan Howard is under control (arbitration) until after the 2011 season, and Cole Hamels is under control until after the 2012 season. So, the Phillies should be competitive at least for the next two or three years.
Lidge gets extension; Utley enters home-run derby
"Lights Out" Lidge is locked up for another 3 years. The Phillies signed him to a 3-year $37.5 million extension. 19 saves and a 1.00 ERA in half a season will get you a nice pay day.
Breaking: Phils sign Lidge to 3-year extension
This one came out of nowhere. The Phillies rewarded closer Brad Lidge's monster (read: perfect) first half by signing him to a $37.5 million, 3-year contract extension this morning. Nice.
Lidge Contract Extension
A report on MLB.com said to expect an announcement today that Phillies closer Brad Lidge and the Phillies have agreed to a 3-year, $37.5 million contract extension, with a club option in 2012. Lidge has not blown a save yet in 2008.
Just Short- Phils
Phils tried to make a huge comeback over the Mets last night, but failed and came up just short (that's what she said). The comeback attempt was entertaining, but in the end it's still a loss and therefore doesn't really matter then.
Adam Eaton was the main culprit for the loss. Stats since joining the Phils- 38 games started, 13-17 record, 262 IP, 309 H, 171 ER...
Sunday chat: Phillies seek revenge this afternoon
Kyle Kendrick (8-3, 4.58) toes the rubber when the Phils try to put yesterday's bullpen meltdown behind them against Oliver Perez (6-5, 4.98) and the Mets. First pitch is 1:35. After holding the Mets scoreless through 4 1-3 frames in Friday's tight win, the Phils 'pen imploded for six earned runs in 2 1-3 innings in last night's 9-4 loss. Main offenders: J.C. Romero...
Phillies Shopping for a Starter
CC Sabathia must fall asleep with a smile on his face because every day he wakes up and another team has declared an interest in acquiring him. The latest to enter the Sabathia sweepstakes is the Phillies. They've also expressed an interest in Mariners lefthander Erik Bedard, who is 5-4 with a 3.79 ERA. The Phillies have some young talent they would part with for a quality starter.
Ed Wade Makes a Pretty Lousy Scape-Goat
As the fingers start pointing in Houston as to who should be blamed for the Astros' misery, Ed Wade is drawing most of them. Yet, holds the least amount of blame.
Phillies rally to win 3-2; Happ holds his own
Shane Victorino knocked in Pedro Feliz with a walk-off RBI single in the ninth, as the Phillies and their steadfast bullpen overcame a 2-0 deficit to outlast Johan Santana and the rival Mets at Citizens Bank Park. With his pitch count still at 95, Mets skipper Jerry Manuel elected to remove Santana, who had been dominant except for a pair of Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell RBI singles...
Phils lose; C.C. the Brewer; Cole snubbed; vote Pat
There's plenty to discuss on a busy Monday morning. Here's a synopsis. Game summary: The Phillies lost to the Mets 4-2 in 12 innings in a game that included a 2 hour and 50 minute rain delay. The Phils needed a miracle two-out, two-run Jayson Werth home run off Billy Wagner in the bottom of the ninth to get it that far, but in the end, it all boiled down to two things. First...
J-Roll, Phillies 'in the flow' at Turner Field
In a carbon copy of Tuesday night and their previous series in Atlanta, the Phillies received good pitching and late insurance runs in a 7-3 win over the Braves. It marks their first series win since June 7. Call it a marginally better performance than the night before, give or take a few miscues, give or take Atlanta's so-so pitching staff. The Phils got a hit in every inning...
Is This Some Kind Of Sick Joke?
Mark Mulder is starting against the Phillies on Wednesday. The $14 million bust that has recorded exactly four outs this season will be going up against the most dangerous lineup in the National League. They have the most homeruns in the NL against left handed pitching and they play in a bandbox of [...]
Game chat: Phillies try to solve Mets' Maine
Right-hander John Maine (8-6, 3.86) is 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA in seven starts against the Phillies, and is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in two starts Citizens Bank Park. The Phils hope for better luck and try to make it five in a row when Jamie Moyer (7-6, 4.13) takes the mound tonight. First pitch is 7:05. The Phils hold a 3.5 game edge over Florida in the National League East and are 5.5 up on the Mets.
DL, Retire, or Scrub: Tom Gordon
Tom Gordon was a very successful MLB pitcher (Career stats- 138 w, 158 sv, 122 holds, 1928 k, 3.94 era, 1.36 whip). He's been a quality starting pitcher, closer, and set-up man over his 19 year career. He's pitched for the Royals, Red Sox, Cubs, Astron, Yankees, and currently the Phillies. However, his time in the summer sunshine is coming to an end because he absolutely...
