I'm going to be honest: There wasn't a single point during last night's game, until Ben Francisco gloved the last out, that I thought the Phillies were going to win. You would think I would have learned by now with this team, but I just wasn't optimistic. Even though I picked the Phillies in 4, I didn't exactly count on a arctic game, and just had a feeling the Phillies bats would go silent in such cold weather. Furthermore, games like Game 2 have sent us into extended offensive funks at times this year, and Colorado has a distinct home field advantage. But, this Phillies team continues to surprise me, and now has a chance to book their flights to L.A. with their ace on the mound tonight. Here are my thoughts on the game... I don't know if it was the cold or the situation, but J.A. Happ was not comfortable on the mound and delivered a really disappointing performance. He didn't have control over his pitches the entire night, usually missing low. We cer...

Phillies survive the cold, take 2-1 series lead

(AP Photo/Jack Dempsey)I'm going to keep this short and sweet thanks to the geniuses at MLB who decided to schedule this game in the middle of the night. The Phillies survived the cold, some rather questionable umpiring and a save situation with Brad Lidge to overcome the Rockies in a 6-5 marathon game that ended at 2:14 AM. The win puts the Phillies in the drivers seat for the series...

Howard: Sticking with Lidge paid off for Phillies

Howard: Many managers would have ditched a struggling Brad Lidge as closer this season. But Charlie Manuel's unconventional style and decision-making has paid off for the Phillies.

Lidge closes out Phillies' 6-5 win over Rockies

Brad Lidge stranded runners at first second base on a bitterly cold Sunday night when he got Troy Tulowitzki to fly out to shallow left field, preserving the Philadelphia Phillies' 6-5 win over the Colorado Rockies in Game 3 of their NL playoff series.

Phillies Beat Rockies, And Why Charile Manuel Is Baseball Genius

It's October. It's the playoffs. And Brad Lidge is perfect again. Everyone knows the story of the 2009 Philadelphia Phillies bullpen. Heading into the playoffs, the question on everyone's mind was who will close out the one-and-two-run games that teams always seem to find themselves in during the playoffs. Was it going to be Lidge? Was it going to be Ryan Madson? Was...

High Scoring Night?

The Phillies just took a 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning on a bases loaded walk to Raul Ibanez and a two-out single by Carlos Ruiz. Charlie Manuel pulls J.A. Happ for a pinch hitter. Happ gave up five hits and two walks in three innings work so he wasn’t exactly [...]

Tuesday 10/13 Quickie: Wildcat, Phillies,Edwards, Lidge, Ingram, Durant, More

I have been on the side of the folks who think that the Wildcat is a disruptive and transformational force in the NFL -- not an incremental gimmick or fad.And while the rest of the league timidly pursues some implementation of it, the Dolphins continue to go all-in -- and last night was nearly the landmark that its debut was a year ago.Even as defensive genius Rex Ryan dismisses...

Season in Review, Phillies vs. Dodgers

The Phillies clinched a spot in the National League Championship Series for the second year in a row. They will face their opponent from last year's NLCS, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Surely the Dodgers remember last year's five game series victory by the Phillies in Dodger Stadium and will be ready for some payback of their own. This season the Dodgers took the season series...
