The Red Sox had too many first basemen after they acquired Victor Martinez from the Indians, so they needed to trade away Adam LaRoche to clear up that logjam. So what did they do? They traded LaRoche to the Braves for another first baseman in Casey Kotchman. This move really makes absolutely no sense, but everyone will say it's great because Theo Epstein can do no wrong in the media. Kotchman is a major league starting first baseman that will now be second off the bench at first base for the Red Sox, if he's even on the big club. He may even be sent to the minor leagues along with newly acquired Chris Duncan. This will be LaRoche's second stint with the Braves. He was traded by Atlanta to the Pittsburgh in 2007 in the deal that brought the Braves reliever Mike Gonzalez.

Kotchman for LaRoche

The Red Sox just traded Adam LaRoche for Casey Kotchman, according to NESN. The Braves get LaRoche back. Maybe they were sorry they let him go? I’m not sure this really improves either team. LaRoche has more power. Maybe there’s another deal in the works. Kotchman gets on base [...]

La Roche gets flipped

I called it in a previous post. I had a feeling LaRoche was going to be flipped. LaRoche was traded to the Atlanta Braves today for another 1st baseman- Casey Kotchman. Victor Martinez to Boston, Adam LaRoche to Mets?

The Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians appear to be closing in on a trade that would send Victor Martinez to Boston for prospects. Talks between the teams have "heated up" in the final hours before the 4 p.m. ET non-waiver trade deadline, sources told ESPN's Peter Gammons. The Red Sox have spent several days working on parallel deals with Toronto for Roy Halladay...

Trade Deadline: Boston’s Revloving Door At First; Martinez In, LaRoche Out

Victor Martinez was one of the few premium bats available in this trade crop and he is now going to be the everyday first basemen for the Boston Red Sox. Martinez adds a ton of pop to a lineup that doesn’t have a lot of it right now. Jason Bay has slowed down after a crazy first half, David Ortiz is a shell of his former self and Dustin Pedroia is not the player that he was...
