Dunn and Dunner:
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Walt Jocketty today announced the signing of free agents OF Jacque Jones and 1B/OF Daryle Ward to minor league contracts with invitations to Major League spring training camp.
Jacque Jones is pretty much toast at this point in his career. He's never really been good, but if the Reds for some reason need to go that deep for a fielder I guess you could do worse as long as he is the Jacque Jones that posted wOBA above league average. If you are a fan of the Reds you should probably hope we never get to see play him in the majors. Signing Jones also makes me ask what are we doing at AAA this year in terms of the OF. Drew Stubbs, Danny Dorn, Sean Cumberland, and some of the guys like Hopper/Jones/Gomes/Nix are going to be there likely also. Lots of bodies for limited OF spots.
Daryle Ward on the other hand is at least a move I can see some reasoning behind. He has had some success against righties randomly through his career, and has his fair share of power (career .184 ISOP). I hope this puts and end to the talk of the Reds adding Luis Gonzalez.

Reds Sign Jones, Ward
The Cincinnati Reds have agreed to minor league deals with OF Jacque Jones and 1B/OF Daryle Ward. It just so happens that both are former Cubs; however, only Jones played under Reds manager Dusty Baker. Ward has a good chance to make the club as a pinch hitter, while Jones might need to prove himself in Triple-A before getting the call up. This story was approved by MLB Rumors.
Edinson Volquez Is Ridin Dirty
Here’s a YouTube find of Reds superstar pitcher Edinson Volquez at home in the Dominican Republic hanging out with one of his buddies. By “hanging out,” I mean chilling in his car, flashing his gun, and saying “better not carjack me” in espanol. Fortunately for Reds fans, there’s no problem ...

Daryl Thompson: Starter or Reliever?

Pirates News: You know it?s a boring day when [losing TJ Beam to the Blue Jays off waivers] is the biggest news we can come up with. For what it?s worth, [I was baffled as to why we let Beam go], as he proved to be somewhat useful at the major league level. Not a [...]
Cincinnati Reds: 2009 Season Preview
The Cincinnati Reds, along with their team ownership and management staff, could be accused of a lot of things, but this off-season they cannot be accused of one thing: sitting still. While most media outlets have branded this team a “young” or “up-and-coming” group of potential future standouts, this team has a legitimate shot to contend in the 2009 season. They play in...
Around the Internet: Spring Training, Abreu, Dunn, Projections, Phillips, and Fast and the Furious
Since I haven't done one of these in a while here it goes.C. Trent Rosecrans has the Reds spring training roster, mean while Mark Sheldon writes about the prospects that recived invites.Supposedly the Reds are open to signing a left handed hitter, but that man isn't going to be Dunn. On that same topic Isaac Thorn from CityBeat thinks they should reconsider him. After the...
Eric Hinske
Bucs are interested in him too. If we're interested in signing someone that can actually be useful as a utility/fourth outfielder in 2009, Hinske scores much higher on the scale than Luis Gonzalez. I have taken this occasion to actually make a new poll, which you can find in the left sidebar.
Eric Hinske signs
The Hinske signing becomes officialy today, too. The Pirates know better than to announce news the Friday before the Super Bowl, apparently. DK's reporting the terms at one year/$1.5 million. That's really not much money to provide some bench insurance. And it's not Luis Gonzalez.
The Diamondbacks Outfield Situation. Also, My Return.
...And we're back. With the return of the Dbacks set to begin tomorrow in their first Spring Training game, this blog returns to regular posting. More than anything the timing is coincidental at best. To be honest i was a bit burnt out from a variety of reasons, and as such my writing suffered. And i hate when what i write is total crap. So i stepped away for a while. But recent...
