Say hello to your 2008 NL Rookie of the Year!
The Cincinnati Reds' Johnny Cueto made his big league debut today and looked like Pedro in his prime. 7IP 1 H 0 BB 10 K's in an economical 92 pitches.
He topped out at 96mph and showed a hard slider that made batters look silly and a changeup learned from great Mario Soto that dropped off the table consistently at 85mph. He also never lost his control. When he missed his spots, he never missed by much and I don't recall him going to a 3 ball count once. He gave up a 6th inning homerun to Justin Upton and casually shook it off and got right back to work K'ing the next batter. That kind of poise can take a player a long way. Look out for this kid, he's going to be impressing for a long time! 12 Comments On: "Say hello to your 2008 NL Rookie of the Year!"
