Say hello to your 2008 NL Rookie of the Year!

The Cincinnati Reds' Johnny Cueto made his big league debut today and looked like Pedro in his prime. 7IP 1 H 0 BB 10 K's in an economical 92 pitches.

He topped out at 96mph and showed a hard slider that made batters look silly and a changeup learned from great Mario Soto that dropped off the table consistently at 85mph.

He also never lost his control. When he missed his spots, he never missed by much and I don't recall him going to a 3 ball count once. He gave up a 6th inning homerun to Justin Upton and casually shook it off and got right back to work K'ing the next batter. That kind of poise can take a player a long way.

Look out for this kid, he's going to be impressing for a long time!

Hmmm...Should I be second guessing spending twice as much on Clayton Kershaw at my auction draft? I'm a big fan of over-hyped guys who spend the majority of the season in the minors.

one good outing n ya crown him eh...............wait till they adjust

He'll be a stud, but lets not get too excited over one start here. One of the hardest things a rookie pitcher has to face is the wear and tear of a 162 game season. Revisit this issue in September after he has a little more under his belt and has faced some more potent lineups.

good call, he did look good and was throwing some heat but it was only 1 start

This guy will be a beast

whoa! almost didnt recognize you there tc

It'll be interesting to see the race between him and Fukudome. It will definitely be a tight one, I'm really excited for this season on the whole.

I realize it's only one start. Let a lifelong Reds fan have something to cheer for! haha

His composure today tells me that he will succeed for the rest of the year though.

True True...Philly fans can sympathize with any fan from the state of Ohio haha

Wow, impressive. I wish i could have seen it. But lets give him a few more starts before we crown anyone with anything.
