Two days ago I called out Rudy Seanez and how bad he has pitched this month and now it looks like we won't be seeing him for a while. The Phillies placed Seanez on the 15 day disabled list with a shoulder inflammation. Supposedly Seanez hurt himself while making a tag in Thursday's game, but this could also just be a phantom injury to get him off the roster.
The Phillies called up Les Walrond from Triple A to replace Seanez. Walrond isn't a prospect at 31 years old, but he did strike out 17 batters in a start for Lehigh Valley in early July. Walrond previously pitched for the Royals and Cubs, going 25 total innings and putting up an ERA of 7.46.
There has been no word on Flash Gordon, who has been eligible to come off the DL for several days now, but he doesn't appear close to coming back.

Phillies send Rudy Seanez to DL, recall Les Walrond
Just days after coming up empty in their quest for more pitching, Rudy Seanez will be sidelined at least 15 days with back and shoulder soreness. Triple-A left-hander Les Walrond replaces him on the roster. Beerleaguer: This should come as no surprise. Seanez hasn't been pitching well and was used sparingly even before Thursday's game, which is when he suffered the shoulder...
It Doesn't Matter the Level of Competition, Eaton Will Still Tank
Struggling pitcher Adam Eaton made his minor league debut last night. Eaton took the mound for the Lakewood BlueClaws, the Phillies Low-A minor league affiliated, and like he's done all season for the Phils, he got hammered. Eaton allowed four runs and five hits in three and two-thirds of an inning. He also was unable to establish a fastball, topping out at 89 MPH.

Game chat: Phillies headline Sunday Night Baseball
Brett Myers (4-9, 5.46) hopes to build on his last start when the Phillies close out their three-game series against Todd Wellemeyer (8-4, 4.13) and the Cardinals tonight at 8:05 ET on ESPN. Last night, the Phils nipped the Cards 2-1 thanks to an excellent effort from Joe Blanton (1-0), earning his first win as a member of the Phillies. Blanton allowed just one run over seven innings...
The morning after
A tweak or two is likely between now and Aug. 31. Let us not forget one of Gillick's Top 5 deals in Philly was the mid-August stealing of Jamie Moyer from Seattle in 2006.
What to do with Happ
When pitcher J.A. Happ was pulled from his Triple-A start last Sunday, I assumed he had been traded. Happ, a starter, really had really had no position with the Phillies. With the addition of Joe Blanton and the return of Brett Myers, the rotation seemed to be set for the remainder of the season.
The skeptic in me then figured that Happ would start Tuesday's game against...
Phillies complete sweep, stand pat at trade deadline
Beerleaguer is up to its eyeballs in non-baseball related matters, so let's refresh the header with an open thread to discuss yesterday's win and the front office coming up empty in their pursuit of last-minute pitching help.
Good against Bad, Bad against Good: The Phillies
The Phils are a butt-spanking 39-20 against teams currently with losing records, but only 20-30 against teams currently on the plus side of .500. Wins are wins, and as long as they make it to the playoffs I'm cool, but remember the teams in the playoffs are on the good side of .500.

Blockbuster Deals Overshadowed Smaller Deals
ESPN's Jayson Stark made an interesting observation after the deadline on Thursday. In the flurry of big-name deals, many smaller deals did not get made because of the attention being paid to the blockbusters. Many teams like Phillies and Mets, thought to be in on the Manny sweepstakes, wound up with nothing because so much energy was spent on trying to make a big acquisition...
Game chat: Phils carry 5-game streak into St. Louis
Cole Hamels (9-6, 3.27) and Kyle Lohse (6-10, 3.33) square off in the first of three from Busch Stadium. First pitch is 8:15 ET. Catching up on yesterday's news, now that my eyes have readjusted from an afternoon eye exam. Old news: the Phillies doubled up the inferior Nationals 8-4. Kyle Kendrick (9-4) earned the win against a badly flawed lineup. Just a brutal situation for...
Phillies Fans Are Chick Magnets
There, there buddy. You might never see a woman naked, but at least your team just swept the on-pace-for-100+ losses-Nationals! So, you've got that going for ya, brah.
But, as Jamie pointed out to me, the really sad part about this photo is that the entire section is empty. I may have failed Econ 101 twice, [...]
Heart Attacks, Thanks Brad Lidge
Holy schnikes, almost didn't pull that one out. Brad Lidge gave Phils fans a few heart attacks last night, hell make that a baker's dozen. In the end everything is fine and dandy though, as Lidge converted his 28th save of the season; extending the Phils lead in the NL East to 2.5 games over the Marlins and 3 games over the Mets.
