By now, we all know what happened with Odalis Perez this offseason with the Nationals (if you need a refresher, click here), but what I cannot figure out is what happened to Odalis Perez. Here is a guy who went 7-12 with a 4.34 ERA with the last place Washington Nationals last season, numbers that should have him pitching in the majors this season. But for some reason, no one has taken a chance on Perez.Well actually, that's not 100% true. As I mentioned before, the Nationals did sign Perez to a minor league contract in February, but Perez refused to report to camp because he thought that he could do better. Are teams trying to make a statement against Perez that going against contracts (including minor league deals) is not acceptable and therefore, no one has seriously looked to sign him? Doubtful, but cannot be ruled out.Did Perez's antics with the Nationals scare off potential suitors? Perhaps.Or maybe, teams are wary of giving Perez a major league contract even though his ...

Washington Nationals’ Tarp Fail

Things were looking up for the Washington Nationals in recent weeks. Ryan Zimmerman had a hefty hit streak going, and they pulled out a few quality road wins during a West Coast swing. But, as we are used to with most Baltimore-Washington area sports, rain will fall and there’s very little tarp - emotional or physical [...]

Offensive Remedy- Nationals Pitching

A dose of Washington Nationals pitching is exactly what the doctor ordered to cure the anemic Phillies offense. Prior to this weekend’s 4 game sweep, the Phillies had scored 29 runs and were 48-253 (.190 avg) over the past 8 games. However, this weekend they unloaded for 33 runs and went 49-151 (.325 avg). Are they as bad as the .190 batting average with 3.6 runs per game? ...

MLB: NATS THE GREATEST WORST TEAM EVER

There’s a terrific difference between stock, boring fail and deliciously fun, restaurant-quality fail. And the Washington Nationals haven’t been stingy with the latter. With misspelled jerseys and one of the minor-leaguers on the all-star ballot, the Nats complete the trifecta with the grounds crew completely bungling the tarp. You don’t have to fight with it. [...]

Another Game With the Nats? Yes Please.

Sooo perhaps that title is a bit on the confident side. Three straight wins over any team will for ya, let alone the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked, the Washington Nationals. Entering the four-game series at an even .500, the Phils have climbed to three games up, doing what good teams do—beat bad teams. Do they have enough left in this weekend's tank to pull off the...

Jolly Roger - Putting ten on the board

in the 7th inning helped the Pirates take 2 of 3 for the second straight series as they beat the Rox today 11-4.  The win today makes two straight wins for the Pirates and gives them a 4-2 record on this homestand. It looks like things are starting to turn around for the Pirates.  The win today improves the 6th place Pirates record to 16-21 .432 -7.  The Lumber Company put up...

Even the Tarp Beats the Nationals

Sports Rubbish says it best: The motto of the 2009 Washington Nationals is “FAIL”. First was their “Natinals” uniforms. Then you add in their league-worst 11-25 record. And now this.

Weekend Series Update Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals

Where do I begin. Its very hard to gauge a team based on their performance against the Nats. The Phillies could have blown that game WIDE open. On the night, the Phillies had twenty, yes TWENTY, runners in scoring position and only managed to get 8 home. Blanton struggled with command again walking 6 over five innings. Which further proves my point that the umpires have a league...

A look at Shairon Martis

Shairon Martis is not a pitcher that I have spent much time discussing, but it really is time to acknowledge his early season success. Let’s take a look at how he’s kicked off his 2009.

The Gunderson Trade Keeps Looking Better For The Marlins

It was not that long ago that the Washington Nationals traded away Kyle Gunderson to the Florida Marlins for Logan Kensing. The trade was understandable for both sides. The Marlins had given Kensing a chance on their active roster and were not pleased with the results. The Nationals needed help with its Major League bullpen immediately. While Gundy had put up great numbers...
