On Friday, Congress introduced a bill congratulating the New York Yankees for winning the World Series. The vote passed with 386 votes, 17 Nays, 11 voting Present, and 19 missing the vote. William Delahunt, representing the Cape and Islands and other vaguely aquatic regions of Massachusetts, put up one of the no votes, strictly on moral grounds:
“I’m usually rational but when it comes to the Yankees, I take a hard-line position,” he told The Hill. “For those of us in Red Sox nation, it was a sad, sad day [when they won]. It tells you something about the corrosive nature of money in sports and politics.”
