Game One Hundred Thirty-Nine - Cubs 6 Reds 4
WP - Jeff Stevens (1-0) LP - Justin Lehr (4-2) Save - Carlos Marmol (12)
The Chicago Cubs won their fourth game in a row and improved to five games above .500 behind a perfect day at the plate by Aramis Ramirez. Ramirez went 3-for-3 on Friday afternoon with a stolen base, two runs scored, and three RBI ... all with two outs. Ramirez scored the first run of the game and for good measure stole his first bag of the season in the fifth inning. In 66 games this year Ramirez has driven in 54 runs, third on the team behind Derrek Lee (96) and Alfonso Soriano (55).
Aramis Ramirez gave the Cubs a 3-1 lead with a two-out single to left in the third that plated Milton Bradley and Derrek Lee. After Jonny Gomes tied the game at four with his 19th longball of the year in the top of the fifth, Ramirez drove in Kosuke Fukudome with another two-out single to left in the bottom of the fifth ... the eventual game winner.
Geovany Soto gave the Cub...

Carlos Marmol is the Cubs "Closar"
Ah yes, it is written.
Maybe spelled a little wrong, but applying a little "Da Vinci Code" logic and the conclusion is: Carlos is the Closar.

No longar does he appear bewildared.
And as time goes on, he's getting bettar.

Game One Hundred Forty - Cubs 5 Reds 7
WP - Arthur Rhodes (1-1) LP - Carlos Marmol (2-3) Save - Francisco Cordero (34)
The Cubs' four-game winning streak came to an end Saturday afternoon after an ugly start, a great comeback and a 'wild' ninth inning for Carlos Marmol. Between the Cubs three errors in the third inning, horrible defense behind Randy Wells and both...
Game Recap: Reds 7, Cubs 5 -- Carlos Marmol isn't the change we are looking for
(recap graphic to come later)Randy Wells joined today the increasingly full list of Cub starters who struggle to get out of the 4th inning, although the Cubs still almost managed to escape with a win. Our heroes were down 5 runs when, in the middle innings they launched a Geovany Soto-led charge.
The Cubs catcher hit 2 RBI-scoring doubles in back-to-back innings, which...

Even when the Cubs win a game there is drama ... and that was the case on Wednesday afternoon in Pittsburgh. The Cubs completed the three-game sweep of the Pirates and Carlos Zambrano earned his first victory since July, but ...

Another Glimpse Of What Could Have Been As Cubs Beat Reds
The Chicago Cubs won their fourth consecutive game Friday, beating Cincinnati 6-4 in the opener of a three-game weekend set at Wrigley Field. Starter Rich Harden lasted just four innings, but got help from the Cubs bats, as Geovany Soto homered and Aramis Ramirez went three-for-three.
Despite another rough outing in which he surrendered three runs in one inning of work, Cubs...
Come To Think of It: Friday's Cubs Game Offers Rule Change Reminder
I don’t know about you, but I would like to see major league baseball alter the way in which it allocates wins to pitchers in a ballgame.
This is nothing new, but Friday’s Cubs game reminded me of how unfair the current rules are. After starter Rich Harden threw an astounding 103 pitches in only four innings of work (not a recipe for success by the way), Jeff Stevens...
GameCast: September 13th vs. Reds
Homer Bailey (5-4, 5.60 ERA) vs. Ted Lilly (11-8, 3.17 ERA)
Story-linesThe Cubs blew a chance to gain a game on the Rockies last night, thanks in part to the erratic arm of Carlos Marmol. I know that some people think he's capable of being the team's next closer, but his inability to regularly throw a strike makes that a bad idea.
Maybe Marmol is just erratic...
Reds 7, Cubs 5: Defensive Lapses and Wildness Do In Cubs
For an inning or two Saturday afternoon, the Chicago Cubs could smell their fifth straight win, which would have tied their season high. Instead, the Cincinnati Reds beat them 7-5 after a two-run rally in the top of the ninth against Cubs closer Carlos Marmol.
The Cubs fell behind early, when three Cubs' errors gave Cincinnati a pair of unearned second-inning runs. Derrek...
