I agree the Mets need pitching I just dont feel Derek Lowe is the answer. Jon Garland Or Ben Sheets would be great.

Mets need pitching, and there just aren't a lot of options. If I were King, my priorities would be, in order:Oliver Perez: 4 years at $52MDerek Lowe: 3 years at $42MJon Garland: 3 years at $25M (incentives to $30M)Braden Looper: 2 years at $14MThat's my rack and stack and what I think would get the deals done. Unfortunately, there just aren't many quality FA starting pitchers out there this year. You know why I only like those 4?Innings--all four of these starters go out and put up at or near 200 innings year after year. The rest of the FA list is all over the place--very up and down, with injury histories throughout. The
Mets should spend money smartly on someone who will be able to take the
mound every 5th day...we were burned by Pedro, sadly, and it just puts
a huge amount of pressure on a team when you have starters go down for
any length of time. We see this all over baseball--Mark Prior, Carl Pavano
and on and on and on. Losing a starting pitcher is one of the most

Rumor Mill: Derek Lowe edition
With all the recent developments on the Derek Lowe front, I decided today was a good day to do a Derek Lowe edition of the rumor mill. I just got off the phone with a league source that has knowledge of the negotiations, and it is clear that Lowe was not content at all with [...]
J.J. Putz - Ready, Willing and Able
Last week, J.J. Putz had some interesting things to say about his new role with the New York Mets.
Obviously, his first choice would have been to close, but he has completely embraced his future role as the setup man for the Mets.
"It wasn't the ideal situation. I really loved closing. But I'm just going to take it an inning earlier, so it's not going to be that...
Mets Need Another Lefty In the Bullpen
The additions of J.J. Putz and Francisco Rodriguez, along with the subtractions of Scott Schoeneweis and Aaron Heilman completely reconstructed the shape of the 2009 Mets bullpen. The 1-2 punch of Putz and K-Rod should be a major strength in late innings, but one weakness that has been largely ignored is the lack of lefties in the bullpen. Reading articles on Mets.com (Mlb.com writer...
Do we risk insulting Lowe....
I understand the concept of negotiation and trying to get the player you want at a reasonable price but if you play hard ball you run the risk of losing that player. Omar has done a tremendous job in certain negotiation; Johan Santana, Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran. But he has also miss-read ...
Pedro as the fifth
I've come full circle on Pedro Martinez, when the season ended I wanted the Mets to move on from Pedro and either give the spot to Jon Niese or bring in a veteran for the spot. But now as time has past I think Pedro would be our best option as the fifth starter and when he goes on the disabled ...
Time to Get a Lowe Deal Done
Happy New Year, everyone. Let's hope this is our year, Mets
With the bullpen picture much clearer with Francisco Rodriguez and J.J. Putz holding down the back end, it seems like we're within days of settling the rotation
Apparently Derek Lowe has (not surprisingly) turned ...
I'll keep shopping....Lowe
The day started with people close to Derek Lowe saying the pitcher believed he would be a Met and by the end of the day there are reports out of Boston that he's disatissfied with the Mets offer and will cont. to shop for a better deal. Of course, you have to consider the source the Boston ...
Rock the Vote.....Manny
The good Mets fans at NYFS have decided to start a petition to show how many Mets fans want Manny Ramirez. We need a left fielder and a right handed bat, so from a baseball point of view Manny makes sense. In fact Omar has been known to covet Ramirez and even this year his tepid responses can't ...
Vargas Signs With Dodgers
Former Mets pitcher, Claudio Vargas, signed a one year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the LA Times reports. In 37 big league innings with the Mets last year, Vargas posted a 4.62 ERA and accumulated a mere 20 strike outs. The Mets had hoped last year that Vargas would possibly be an answer to their pitching woes, especially after the season ending injury to Orlando Hernandez, however...
Beltran For Dice-K and Ellsbury - Yes or No?
Joel Sherman of the NY Post had some interesting points the other day on why the Mets should explore the possibility of acquiring Daisuke Matsuzaka from the Boston Red Sox.
It's actually a good read and he brings up some fair points right until you get to the very end where he asks...
Let me ask Met fans, Red Sox fans and anybody else interested if you would be willing to do this...
Gil Hodges Belongs In The Hall of Fame
Gil Hodges was a World Champion, not only as a player with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1955 and the L.A. Dodgers in 1959, but as a manager of the “Miracle Mets” in 1969.? He hit 370 homers in 18 total seasons spent mostly with the Dodgers.? Hodges had a stellar year in 1954 when he [...]

Lowe situation makes me nerves....
I've believed that Derek Lowe was the perfect fit for this team since he was pitching in the playoffs for the Dodgers. So for the Mets to be in actual contract discussions with Lowe, of course the neurotic Mets fan is going to come out and believe at any moment, just when everything appears to ...
SNY Doesn’t Fail to Disappoint
I decided to spend my New Years Eve morning doing the little stuff around the house: laundry, residual clean up after Christmas, playing with my dog in the snow. After a couple of hours of this, I decided to make some waffles and watch TV. I did my usual channel surfing to see if there [...]
