Yusmeiro Petit to get first start today for Marlins

He's 21 years old and been pretty hyped up for some time now. Petit was originally included in the Delgado trade. (At least the Mets got something more back for a top prospect than Victor Zambrano/Kazmir debacle). There was originally talks of Petit starting in the rotation this year but he wasnt able to pull it off. He wasnt pretty in limited relief work either (7.36 ERA) before being sent down to Triple-A.

Personally, I am kind of surprised that Petit is getting the call so early. This will most likely be a short callup for Petit while he fills in for the injured Moehler. His minor league numbers havent been that impressive this year. He has posted a 4.21 ERA, but more concerning is that his strike out rate is way down from prior years. He has only struck out 33 in 51IP. At all other stops he has averaged more than a K an inning.

Petit will get a little bit of help today by throwing at the pitcher friendly park in Washington against the Nationals but I still wouldnt expect much unless you are playing in a longer term keeper league.

That is, if they get the game in - it's raining here, as it has been seemingly for the past two weeks straight.

Well, I guees it depends whether you are a cup half full or half empty kind of guy. They played the game and Petit got the win. That said, he got the win because the Marlins put on a hitting clinic and scored 18 runs. Petit pitched six innings, gave up 5 ER and 11 hits. Not pretty.
