C'Mon, Bobby Boy!We Mets fans ***** a lot. 'Incessantly' would be a good word to describe the frequency of our belly-aching. In our world, we are tortured by the most emotionally-damaging franchise in all of sports. It's a bit of hyperbole. And one thing we are particularly hyperbolic about is "our" closers. In short, listening to a 30-something Mets fan of my era, you'd think the Mets have had the most inept closers in the history of baseball. Truth be told, they've actually been pretty good. Many teams have been throwing glorified seventh inning guys and/or an assortment of closer-by-committee posses out for the final frame for years on end. And while Braden Looper, Johnny Franco, Armando Benitez and Billy Wagner all caused plenty of heartburn for Mets fans...the numbers show they were also all pretty good in blue and orange.
