It wasn’t a good night for Pittsburgh fans, as the Bucs weren’t able to do much to cheer up disappointed Penguins fans after the Pens blew a 3-goal lead.

Erik Bedard wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t particularly good. He looked pretty sharp early on but surrendered a run in the third on a two-out walk and two singles.  He recovered for a few innings, but allowed three straight singles to start the sixth and came out of the game. The bullpen was able to clean up the remainder of the mess, so he was charged with just two runs in five innings.

The Pirates took a brief lead–the first time they have led a game this year–when Clint Barmes homered in the third for his first hit as a Pirate. Bedard couldn’t make it last, though, and the offense was quiet again other than that. Chad Billingsley was a slight downgrade in competition and the Bucs weren’t able to capitalize. They hit a number of balls hard that went for outs, but didn’t look very good at the plate as a whole.

Tony Watson and Evan Meek combined to allow two insurance runs for the Dodgers in the seventh, and the Los Angeles bullpen was very effective in the late innings as the Bucs dropped their first non-one-run game of the year.

Dodgers 4, Pirates 1 / Box / 2012 Record: 2-3 / Next: Thursday, at Dodgers, 10:10

MVP: Barmes (+.089) / LVP’s: Walker (-.176) / Key play: Rivera’s game-tying single in the 3rd
