TEAMS: New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels
Alex Rodriguez hit his second home run of the season against the Red Sox yesterday which was his 631st of his career, putting him in sole possession of 5th place on the all-time home run list.
Up next is Willie Mays at 660, whom Alex could catch if he hits just 29 more home runs this season.
The rest are going to have to wait. Babe Ruth has 714 career homers or 83 more than A-Rod. Hank Aaron is No. 2 all-time with 755 homers and of course Barry Bonds leads everyone with 762.
What most people know is that Alex Rodriguez has a historic bonuses clause in his contract which will pay him $6 million each time he reaches one of these upcoming milestones. That was actually in the news on Friday because MLB has done away with these so called historic bonus clauses and personal service contracts, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.
This doesn’t mean the Yankees can get away with their stupidity as A-Rod’s contract remains unaffected by this. It just seems silly that the MLB now has a rule protecting owners from handing out these silly clauses that in A-Rod and Albert Pujols‘ cases make terrible contracts even worse.
