Alex Rodriguez is scheduled for hip surgery on Jan. 16. The New York Yankees third baseman could be sidelined until the All-Star break because of the injury, which was disclosed by the team last month. A-Rod has been undergoing physical therapy in preparation for the operation by Dr. Bryan Kelly of the Hospital for Special Surgery. A 14-time All-Star and baseball's priciest player at $275 million, Rodriguez has a torn labrum, bone impingement and a cyst. General manager Brian Cashman has said the team anticipates he will be sidelined four to six months after the operation.
