Last night, Miguel Batista threw six innings and allowed two runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out three. In the winning effort, Batista recorded his 100th Major League victory. After the game, Batista discussed his performance with reporters and basically said: He’s very proud to have reached this milestone and relieved to have gotten it out of the way. Dan Warthen told him to slow down his delivery to the plate in the early innings, which enabled him to settle in. He thinks the role of a swingman — jumping back and forth between the rotation and the bullpen — can be taxing, but he’s glad to be effective in that flexible role.
