Bobby Abreu has been an All-Star two of the last three seasons. He has hit 206 home runs in his career and is closing in on 1,000 RBI. The Yankees will pay him $15 million this season, usually to hit third.
Yet on four occasions in the last two weeks, Abreu has stood at the plate, watched a pitch come in and squared to bunt.
"Bunt" is the dirtiest four-letter word around the Yankees. Pitchers in the National League bunt. Pipsqueak infielders like David Eckstein bunt. Corner outfielders wearing pinstripes? They swing the bat.
