Tuesday night finally came for Adam Greenberg, as his seven years of waiting for a second chance in the Major Leagues came to fruition after signing a one day contract with the Miami Marlins. Greenberg stepped up to the plate to face the Mets’ R.A. Dickey in the bottom of the 6th as Aerosmith’s Dream On echoed throughout Marlins Park. The Miami fans were at their classiest, giving the 31-year-old a standing ovation throughout his second Major League at-bat.
Even though Greenberg struck out on three pitches, the outcome was overshadowed by the moment. He returned to the dugout to hugs, fist bumps and high fives.
Watch it here and prepare for goosebumps…
When all is said and done, let’s not forget that Adam Greenberg sports a career OBP of .500. That’s none too shabby.
