The Washington Nationals are going to be without the services of Adam LaRoche for awhile. The slick fielding first baseman is going to spend a stint on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. The 31-year old first tore the labrum in his left shoulder in spring training and aggravated the injury in a game against the Marlins in early April. LaRoche is currently in New York getting a second opinion on whether surgery is necessary. Michael Morse is expected to get the majority of at-bats at first in his absence. LaRoche has always been a notoriously slow starter, but this year, his numbers are even worse than they usually are in the first half of the year, batting only .172 with three bombs and 15 RBI. He says that the injury doesn’t prevent him from playing, but it has sapped him of power at the plate and it causes pain when throwing the ball on defense.
