The Athletics trailed the Indians 4-3 going into the ninth inning in Cleveland on Wednesday night. A's shortstop Adam Rosales hit a ball to deep left center field that hit off of the railing on top of the fence, above the yellow line, at Progressive Field. Ground rules say that's a home run. The umpires reviewed the call...and ruled that the ball was in play, and Rosales would have to stay at second.  Naturally, Oakland manager Bob Melvin went positively nuclear after the call wasn't overturned and was ejected from the game. Naturally, second base umpire and crew chief Angel Hernandez essentially gave a copout answer of "we didn't see enough to overturn the call" when the evidence was as clear as day. Hernandez also took the oh so classy route of having no recorded interviews after the game, only written interviews. It's pretty bad when MLB institutes replay to make sure situations like this don't happen, and then they happen anyway. But remember: you've gotta respect the human element! [follow]
