As the offseason gets into full swing, many fans are wondering what is going to happen with St. Louis Cardinals free agents Kyle Lohse and Lance Berkman. Neither will likely be back in St. Louis, but where will they land?
If you look forward to next year just a little bit, the startling realization that ace Adam Wainwright will be a free agent in 2013 will hit you square in the face.
According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Wainwright is ready to start talking contract extension and wants to stay in St. Louis for the long haul.
“In brief talks with (Cardinals executives) they feel real good about me coming back for a long time, and I want to make that happen,” Wainwright said. “I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t make that happen. ... It’s not like I have one foot out the door. If I’m being honest, they have to show they respect what I’ve done and what I will do. And they have. They have. So I don’t think it will be a problem."

Adam Wainwright missed the entire 2011 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. This came after he finished second in Cy Young voting in 2010 and third in Cy Young voting in 2009. So when he returned this past season, people were interested to see how well Wainwright could bounce back from the surgery. Well, he struggled early on but managed to finish with an ERA under...
Adam Wainwright is fixing to get paid. He’s under contract for $12 million in 2013, but he likes St. Louis enough that he’ll give them a chance to sign him this offseason, according to Derrick Goold’s Monday piece in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Finding a comp for his contract talks depends heavily on how you weight his different defining characteristics. Is he just a great...

So I'm trolling around some St. Louis Cards news on the Internet when I come across an article on SB Nation about Lance Berkman possibly heading back to the Houston Astros.
Houston? Those dirty dogs? I mean, I thought Berks got a taste of the filet and wouldn't want round steak anymore. But to each their own.
The article went on to explain that the talks...
In an effort to clear room on their 40 man roster, the St. Louis Cardinals have outrighted three players to Triple-A Memphis, clearing three roster spots as free agency and the Rule 5 Draft approach.
Catchers Bryan Anderson and Steven Hill along with right-handed reliever Adam Reifer were the three players affected by the move.
The move clears roster space for general manager...
ST. LOUIS - The famous Rally Squirrel that darted across the field while Skip Schumaker was batting last October surfaced again Monday when his trading card sold for 157.50 on EBay.
The card - a 2012 Topps Baseball Variation Proof Card - made headlines in January when it was announced that a limited number of Schumakers cards would prominently feature the squirrel and not the Cardinals...
ST. LOUIS - As Mark McGwire phoned his former students this past weekend to inform them he would be accepting an offer to become the Los Angeles Dodgers hitting coach, their reaction was one of disappointment but also happiness.
Orchestrator of the National Leagues best offense during his three-year run as Cardinals hitting coach from 2010-2012, McGwires successful return to baseball...
The 2012 St. Louis Cardinals weren’t exactly the Running Redbirds of old, but showed a slightly greater propensity to steal bases than in recent seasons.
They improved in this area despite the loss of Albert Pujols, the somewhat surprising club leader in base stealing in two of the previous three years. 2011 team steals leader Tyler Greene was dealt away during 2012.

John Mabry moves up to replace Mark McGwire as the St. Louis Cardinals' hitting coach for 2013. Blaise Ilsley has been promoted from Memphis to be the new bullpen coach.
The St. Louis Cardinals made several changes to their coaching staff this week before free agency gets started. That’s not huge news, but it might be more than the team changes to its player roster during the offseason.
Hitting coach Mark McGwire said Friday he will take the same position with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cardinals also announced earlier in the week that bullpen...
ST. LOUIS - The Cardinals have tabbed assistant hitting coach John Mabry as the replacement for hitting coach Mark McGwire, who left to take the same position with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
